    New PC Builder

Well it looks just like they're charging you extra to let them overclock your pc for you. You may as well just buy your own and overclock it. I have never heard of them....doesn't seem like there's that much to their website....I'd be weary of it. Dan

    Hard Drive tempature sensor

Hard Drive Temperature Sensors are internal to the hard drive itself. From what I can guess its either a problem with the software or the temperature sensor itself. I'd try another hard drive temperature program and compare the values to see for yourself. Dan

Wireless desktop with recharging mouse cradle?

Well I did a quick look around for some but I came up with nothing. Looks like you'll have to break the bank if you want to get a package like that. I'd suggest just getting the mouse separate for now, or hold off until those packages come down in price. Dan

    Slow Year?

Yeah you're right it has been a slow year. I guess the excitement now is going to be with getting HD-DVD and Blue-Ray players in their computers ;). Well they're still a couple months for some maybe interesting announcements. Or we can just look forward to things next year ;). Dan

    Sleep mode question

I don't think its that big of a deal, fans dont draw that much power. If you're worried about it, why not have it go to hibernation mode after so much time in standby or skip standby and go directly to hibernation. Yes, fan controllers will allow you to shut off fans. All they're doing is...

Is this a VIRUS or what ?

Find a power supply that is similar to the one that died (with both of the auxiliary connectors) and then do an Windows XP reinstall. This will negate software being the cause. When do the $$$$$$$$$$ show up? Before the XP boot screen or after it? And just because there are dollar signs does...

Is this a VIRUS or what ?

Grab a spare hard drive and try to install XP on it. This will rule out a virus. If it still happens then it is a hardware issue that will need to be tested further. I dont think its a virus, I'm more likely to bet its hardware related or XP has been corrupted.

    Still having a printer problem

I have not read your other post so hopefully all the info is here and am not reiterating what others have said. There are 2 things that could be causing this: 1) a problem with the printer itself 2) a problem with the device driver and connection to printer from the PC. 1) Have you...

But am I able to use it without the adapter since it does plug in....its just there are 4 pins that are unused. Which from what I read is to ensure stability...but the post I read in this section that compared the voltages compared to not using an adapter and using one showed there was no...

Hey, I just went and picked up a new motherboard and processor and was putting it together when i noticed the motherboard has a 24 pin plug for the power. I've searched a bit on the net about using a 20 pin power supply on a 24 pin motherboard and its suggested that it will work fine. But I...

    Grounded and mobo questions

Glass should be ok, metal is not. For example say you put your motherboard on it...it would connect all the connections. Remember the motherboard does have power on it even though it is a little battery. Best idea just leave the parts on top of their boxes. Actually what you could do is go...

PC not booting. Only HD LED turned on for 5 seconds.

    Grounded and mobo questions

My labs in college when we were working on pc's we were supplied with magnetic screwdrivers. And I have used them for years on my pc's without problems. One thing that I suspect though that could be affected is the BIOS chip on the board, which after a quick search brought up someone who had...

    Grounded and mobo questions

Well to your first question: You may be fine with that but you dont want to have the metal plate rub with a rug to conduct static electricity. I would suggest you go spend a few bucks and get an anti-static wrist strap to be safe. If you must go without one, what I usually would do is get a...

PC not booting. Only HD LED turned on for 5 seconds.

I'd say replace your hard drive just to see, if you have a spare hard drive. Though if it doesnt even post...the hard drive wouldn't matter. Well since you've eliminated pretty much a lot of the stuff you'd mainly need to be looking at your motherboard and processor. I'd say clear the...
