Are you asking what is possible, or what is optimal? What kind of budget are you working with, and what are your expectations? What are your uses (gaming, music, tv, movies, etc)?

What games are you playing, and if you have Crysis, whats your frame rate like at max settings?

Second the 'you'll never look back' post. It is one of the best purchases I have ever made. Sure it is more expensive, but great sound quality in a room you spend a ton of time in is priceless.

I didn't catch your budge. That said, you say that Sennheiser cans don't get good reviews? I'm here to say otherwise. I have the HD650's powered by a Fubar3 USB/DAC/AMP. It is absolutely awesome how good they sound. I got the HD650's for 250$ shipped, and the FUBAR for another 220$.

What is your price range for your next upgrade? I'd agree with the others that the speakers are the obvious weak link. I'll second that the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 system is more of a side-grade than an upgrade. Just my opinion. I would question whether or not you listen to your headphones more...

I don't game at all. I'm a ubuntu user who wants to use linux, dual monitors for my computing uses, and a 3rd monitor to throw up VLC player on my tv for HD bluray rips etc. The reason I am so big on it being on a single card is that I don't have room on my motherboard for 2 big video cards...

Gotcha. I have no problem changing chipset makers, models etc. What is absolutely crucial is running 2 monitors via DVI and 1 TV from HDMI.
