Everyone keeps telling me the opposite: e.g. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1096959
What do you think is needed? I'd rather error on the high side to be safe.
Do you have any recommendations? Shopping for 1U stuff is hard since so few reviews compare 1U rackmount components.
It has to fit into a 1U: 100(W)x40(H)x250(D) mm
I'm powering a slightly oc'd core 2 duo on a Asus P5W DH Deluxe, 2 harddrives, and a really crappy pci express video card...
Well underclocking and undervolting had no impact reducing the freezes.
I know this ghetto 250w PSU is pushing it. The c2d alone pulls 125w on load. I'm just trying to get this 1U rackmount server in our lab working stably.
I am debugging that gets random freeze-ups once and hour or so. Temperaturs are fine and the OS is a fresh install. So, I suspect it may be the PSU.
The sytem is a Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, Asus P5W DH Deluxe mobo, a very low end PCI-express video card, and a 250W power supply.
So my...
Hey Michael,
You can shave off a little by going with a cheaper PSU. Find a 450 or 500W for ~$70 (like http://www.overcool.com/Exec/product.asp?userid=04394181730774&item_id=34788, this is what I have and it works great).
Dump the flash card (since it's not party of the "system" you can...
the 1/2 grain of rize sized dab then letting the HS spread it out is a fool proof method for good results. However, in my systems I got a 4 degree celcius decrease in load temp from spreading the same amout out with my finger in a bag.

1. yes the asus programs are god awful
2. all the c2d chips are unlocked downward. your mobo might not support it in bios but you can lower the multiplier in crystalcpuid

Just as a point of reference...
I used to do the half grain of rice dot, push the heatsink down to spread it, like AS5 instructions show.
Recently I switched to putting the same amount on, then spread it over the cpu with my finger (in a baggie). Pulling paste from the center drop outward...
well what I want to do is flash the bios of my Asus P5W DH Delus from v502 to v802 so that I can post with my E6600 core2duo. The only system I have available to do the flash is my Asus P4C800 Deluxe.
The P5W DH is a 8Mbit rom, the P4C800 is a 4Mbit rom.
I ordered a new bios chip from asus...
What will happen?
I've read the bios really only uses a fraction of the available rom... will it work at all? or will memory addresses get f'd royally?
Thanks,

Here's a fun mod for your mobo chipset. basically take off all the mobo heatsinks and AS5 'em.
