You're correct in that they had no choice at the time. The procedure is automatic: a product returned to shipping, regardless of reason, generates an automatic RMA and subsequent RMA notification. This procedure is logical for the scenario where the customer refuses shipment. Other scenarios...

From the looks of it my drives never left the facility. According to my account info they've already received and approved the RMA drives. Would've rather had the choice of RMA'ing or not since for me the BIOS bug wouldn't have been an issue.

That's not a choice I can make. The drive either never left Neweggs facility or Newegg contacted UPS/FedEx for return. ... and no the sky was never falling despite the cluckings of the fowl. :D

Why not create a disk image of your current install, update to Leopard, and test it. I suspect you're worried about performance. If so I wouldn't be. Apple does a surprisingly good job at keeping older platforms appear snappy. I think this is one of the reasons Apple machine retain their value...

I always do the combo update and haven't run into any issues. The DL is quite a bit larger but if you have a number of machines to update it's quicker.
