Hi, I have upgraded my Vista 64 system to 8GB so I'm selling the old RAM. It's 4 sticks, 512MB each of registered ECC DDR400/PC3200. This is for workstation/server boards, it won't work in consumer grade boards that don't take registered RAM.
Here's my Heatware, 95 positives and nothing else...

I bought this card on eBay earlier this year for my sister, and put it in her G4 FW800 so she could use FCPro. Now that her project is done she's going to do her editing at work...
I've been working on getting a friend's computer cleaned up and updated from the nasty Antivirus XP 2008 infection. One of the things it does is move all your desktop icons into a toolbar in the taskbar. How can I restore this back to normal? On XP with SP3.
My boss is worried that the Smart Array 431 won't support a resize of the array. The server in question has a three-drive RAID 5 array, plus a spare. These were 18GB drives, they're now 36. It's in a ProLiant server, can't remember which model.
I put the last drive in today, let it rebuild...

I am a PC guy helping my sister upgrade the video card in her FW800. She has a 20" Cinema display so she needs a card with an ADC port.
I won a 9600xt (maybe a Pro?) on eBay, but the ADC power connector on the edge of the card is in a different spot, expecting a G5 logic board.
I know...
I am having trouble getting four Windows NT 4.0 (SP6a) computers to connect to an HP LaserJet 1022 shared from a Windows 2000 computer.
I have made sure all five computers are in the same workgroup name. I have added the user of one of the NT computers (s1) to the Power Users group on the...
I picked up a used Socket A board with the caveat that it may be dead, I'm not worried about getting a refund as I'm sure the seller will make right if need be. It came with a Barton 2500+, and one or the other (maybe both?) apparently died after an overclock attempt.
I'm testing it by...
My brother sent me the email below. Any ideas?
...what happened was I installed the latest Firefox browser (2.0.0.1) on Saturday, and lost all my bookmarks. The support site suggested 3 things to do (uninstall/reinstall; look for the bookmarks.htm file; look for the bookmarksbackup file), but...
I currently have a Pioneer DVR-A09 in my Lian-Li PC-V880B for my HTPC. I have one empty bay and I'd like to fill it, but with something that looks more home-theaterish rather than PCish.

Obviously, a DVD-ROM or another DVD burner would be ideal so I can duplicate...
I am using a Barton 3200+ in my HTPC and my current cooler is not doing the job. What's a good, solid choice for this chip? I also tried a Thermalright SLK-800A but that was even worse.
Somewhat annoying problem: I have to right-click and save on .mpg video files, instead of just click and watch. Otherwise WMP 10 crashes. This is in IE 6. Any known fix for this?
Title says it all. I make a Windows installation and tweak it as I like, including disabling Security Center warnings, turning off the firewall and turning off Automatic Updates. After running Sysprep, I LAN-image another computer (via ZenWorks) and after going through the mini-setup, I log in...
Troubleshooting an IBM ThinkPad A31p. An IOGear USB 2.0 card was ordered and installed to connect an external DVD duplicator (that can print labels on discs). However when the software is launched, the 'master' DVD is cached (from the laptop's drive) then the software (and duplicator) just sit...
I'm rebuilding a Toshiba Tecra M2 with WinXP SP2 and have all drivers installed except one listed as Unknown Device:
Location: on Intel(R) 82801DBM LPC Interface Controller.
Details:
Device Instance Id: ACPI\SMCF030\4&32D50C2&0
Any idea what driver I need to clear this up? Let me know...

UC annual IT reliability report list
The following OS's are used across all campuses in some manner or another. Other OS's are in use by staff and faculty, but not across all campuses. This list ranks each OS from most reliable (stability/lack of downtime, ability to...
Got a department here that is almost entirely Macs (10.3), except two people who have both Macs and Windows XP laptops. One of these two people needs to be able to print from his laptop to an Epson photo printer that is connected locally (USB) to a nearby Mac. On the Mac I was able to share the...
I am helping a friend examine her laptop. Sometimes when she powers it on the display won't turn on. I've run memtest and Drive Fitness Test and they pass. She's sent it to Dell twice who've claimed to have fixed it, only to have the problem recur. Suggestions?
I'm putting together a workstation and wish to use the onboard Sil3114 RAID. This is the motherboard, and it says RAIDs 0, 1, and 0+1 are available.
Side question: Would RAID 10 be possible? "1" a pair of drives and "0" them to the other two?
I need drives with a balance of capacity and...
I have the above-named controller card, with both the BBU card and a battery-backed (literally) DIMM (128MB cache). When I try to boot up with it, I get to its 'POST' screen, briefly see "Firmware Initializing" and then it blinks to "Initializing SCSI Controllers" which just repeatedly flashes...
So I am helping a friend at work invest in a new PC to replace her six-year old Dell. Her budget was $2,000, and together we managed to score the Dell 2405FPW for just under $900 after tax. Now she needs a nice new PC to go with it.
I'm suggesting the eMachines T6524 or T6412. They're well...
All right, I have this board with a pair of Opteron 242s:

And for CPU coolers I decided on a pair of these:

My dad's laptop (WinXP, WMP10) is having problems watching news videos at cbs.com and cnn.com. The ads before the videos play just fine, but when the actual news content starts, he only gets the audio while the video sits on the station's logo. I got videos to play once by resetting WMP to...
Lately my 40GB IBM has started making annoying beeping sounds at me, so I downloaded the Deskstar ID utility. It told me I should upgrade the drive's firmware to FA5AA, but I can't seem to find that so far. Anybody got it handy?
I've never worked with Slot 1 (or Slot A) before...
A friend of mine gave me her old PC a few months ago, because it wouldn't power on any more. She had since got a Powerbook and is quite happy with it. Anyway, turns out the video card was loose. Popped it back in and it works fine. It was...
My new video card arrived last night, and it has two DVI ports. Unfortunately one of them is too close to the inner wall of the case, at the edge of all the slot bays, so I can't plug a cable into it. Is there some sort of extension or adapter that'll help me out here?
Here is a pic of what I...
Thought that title would get your attention :D Seriously, last week I won an eBay auction for a pair of Opteron 242s with heatsinks. They're pulled from an HP DL145 server. The heatsinks appear to be "low-profile" so I'm assuming they were used in a rackmount server. What I am wondering is if...
I'm trying to help a user at my office, who has received a Word document from a co-worker and some characters are not displaying correctly. For example, circles that are meant to be filled in are appearing as capital Fs. Like this:

Also, some apostrophes (') are appearing as equal...
On Monday I won an eBay auction for a pair of Opteron 242s, heatsinks included. I paid right away and the package was waiting for me tonight when I got home.
Both CPUs are wrapped directly in foam, the same heavy-duty dark grey foam hard drives and the like are sometimes shipped in. I've...
A new motherboard arrived last night (a Foxconn 748K7AA) so I began to install Windows XP (with SP1a). This was on a 40GB IBM drive (yes, a Deathstar, but with the firmware fix applied) that previously had Windows 2000 on it. Also, this drive also had only 9GB partitioned (I was going to do...
I finally took the plunge and upgraded to Windows XP Pro almost two weeks ago. The upgrade from 2000 Pro did not go smoothly and I ended up having to do a repair install. Things are working fine now, but when I start up the computer, I get a Novell Net Ready Firmware boot screen. I've checked my...
