Running Business 32-bit on my main machine, and I have a dual monitor setup. I regularly play WoW maximized on one monitor and have several windows open (with Aero enabled, mind you). As far as I can tell, there's no significant difference between average framerates with windows open on my...
Just got my new laptop yesterday, and I'll be installing Stalker on it this weekend. Has a Go 7600 and 2GB of RAM, so I'm hoping it should run well enough.
Kind of sort of OT, but has the automated system ever worked for anybody? The robot *always* tells me that it couldn't validate my confirmation number when I do upgrades (I work for a small computer shop). Never once have I had success without talking to a living, breathing human being...
I have never used ISOBuster, but it looks like it might do what you need it to do. It is not free, however, and I am almost positive you can't actually recover data with the demo. I guess it depends on whether it's worth $30 to recover the data.
Somebody know of a similar but free program?
It's cooled down a bit this evening, but it got to be almost 32c in my room today. Anyway, here is what I came up with...
Core 2 Duo E6600 at stock settings
Retail Intel HSF
Intel D975XBX mobo
Antec P180 (side opened, case fans on medium setting)
Room temp = 28-30c
Internal temp =...
I went wih the G.Skill for my D975XBX for the same reason -- the OCZ is a bit cheaper but I didn't want to have to chance it. So far (only about a day now) everything has been good.

This is probably your best bet. The guys in the Intel processors forum have put together a database of C2D overclocks, the mobos they used, cooling method, etc.
You could always try to run Prime95/Memtest for a day or two and see if you have any problems. However, since it's only occuring when gaming and you aren't seeing any artifacting from the card (this is an assumption on my part since you didn't mention any artifacting) it very well could be the...
I haven't seen any roadmaps, but a price drop is always likely shortly after new processors release. Since the new Kentsfield chips come out later this year, you're probably lokking at about Christmas.
FWIW, it isn't that there are thousands of *incompatible* applications that is the "problem". I think what Shabby means to say is that most programs are compiled/optimized for 32-bit architecture. That said, Windows XP 64-bit edition runs 32-bit applications with negligible difference in...
Here is the bookshelf I found in the dumpster of Office Max this past winter. It had a defective tag on it that stated that the legs were uneven. It's kinda sad that they just threw the thing away because one leg was an inch longer than the rest. It's even sadder that the original purchaser...
My new desktop sized down from 1920x1200 (click for fullsize image):
Using rainmeter (moxa-weather and Pi squared) for vital stats and Launchy in lieu of the start menu for application launching.
It is indeed a 2405, the theme I'm using is clearlooks which has a pretty thin taskbar. The monitor runs at 1920x1200. I'll be posting some new pics as soon as I get my arm mount for those interested.
Every time I think I spent way too much money on my setup, I look around this thread for a while to set my mind at ease. Nice setups, guys.
Here is my new setup. Temporary until my VESA arm mount arrives:
Agreed... ZZF often has free/cheap shipping as well. Newegg has an good selection, so it's great for shopping. ZipZoomFly's website is much harder to navigate, though if you know what you want specifically the search function on the site works well. I've built quite a few systems from parts...
^ Agreed. I did not vote because I have never owned one -- like a lot of people here I assemble my own computers. If you have the exerience to build a system yourself, why not save some money and have some fun taking the DIY route?
This post may not answer the question, but it might give...
Hmm, interesting. I suppose I should trust my better judgement when it comes to buying Tt products. I've never really been happy with their stuff.
I'll look into Panaflo fans. I have a few, but no 92mm fans, all 80mm L1As IIRC.
I'm selling some of my old equipment to my sister when she...
After some thinking and reading some reviews, it looks like I'm going to go with a Venice core CPU, probably a 3200+. The extra L2 cache just doesn't seem worth the ~10% boost at almost double the price. It will hold me over quite nicely until I absolutely must have a dual core rig in a year...
Given that I do a lot of encoding/decoding of music files in FLAC and MP3 format as well as burn DVDs/CDs, a dual core processor would be nice. I'm waiting to see what the word is on the new low-end X2 that is allegedly being released in August. I sadly cannot afford the 4400+ I'd like to get...
Excellent input guys. I will be reading up a little more on the Venice core CPUs, as well as the Thermalright HS and the Cu version of the Zalman tonight. I will definitely be overclocking, so buying a slower processor does not bother me at all. I am also now eyeing the PCP&C Silencer 470 as...
I'm weighing the differences between these two cards at the moment:
BFGTech 6600GT - $212
Sapphire X800XL - $289
It looks like the biggest sacrifices I'd be making moving to a 6600GT would be a downgrade to 128bit memory versus 256bit, eight versus sixteen pixel pipelines, and perhaps...
Hello all, I have decided that it is time to upgrade my main rig again. Before I take the plunge, I'd like to see if there were any components in my list that might have better/cheaper alternatives. I plan on using this system mostly for encoding/decoding audio, burning CDs and DVDs, moderate...
We have a winner!
Omega: no mixup -- notice the "after" pic has some overspray on the masking where the before (the door picture) does not. Also notice that the light fixture is slightly more defined in the reflection. Remember that is not the final product -- I'm going to put one more coat...
@ N H O: Very true -- I have my Stealth hooked up to a 12 volt connector, and it's really not much louder than at 7 volts. I just have the one fan in the back and am pretty happy with my load temps. I do think the Stealth is noticably quieter than the stock fan in the Sonata, but maybe it's a...
Prepping for Paint:
The first step was to get rid of all that orange peel from the factory paint on the case. To do this, I used some 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper (and iced tea) and wetsanded the surface until the cows came home (don't ask about the foliage in the bucket because it's not...
Here it is -- after lurking on these forums for several years and posting only occasionally, it is time to stop admiring all of your beautiful cases and start working on my own!
The Project: I've had my Antec Sonata for about a year or so now, and this summer I have made up my mind that it...
You answered your own question... Now he has the option to upgrade to the dual core AMD processor at the end of the year. In the meantime, I'm sure the single-core CPU will do a fairly good job.
Mmhmm, boot times will be a little faster, load times will be a little shorter in games, and accessing larger files is quicker as well.

Yes indeed. Don't be one of the conspiracy theorists that think SP2 is going to hose your system, that's so 2004. ;)
Sounds like it's time to download some new drivers...
Holy crap, I was thinking the same exact thing, then I read your post. :)
I've got the Sonata, and it's a great case. I can't wait to see some more detailed shots of the Sonata-II.
Just ordered parts for a computer I'm building for a buddy at work. You shouldn't have a problem keeping costs around $800. The parts I ordered were about $850 shipped:
Antec Solution series case
Athlon64 3000+ (socket 939, 90nm) - Zalman CPNS7000B AlCu cooled
MSI K8T Neo2-F
1GB...
