Razor1, just curious what company do you work for? Are you a game designer? programer? You seem well edjucated on the subject of graphics cards.

In my opinion, you current rig offers more options to you, especially with the motherboard you have. One of the best motherboards produced in the last 2 or 3 years. ;) Stick with what you have.

I spent $700 on a professional series Viewsonic 21' CRT Monitor. It has a 100hz refresh rate at 1600x1200, which is what I game at. High refresh rates are every bit as important as having a good graphics card.

Any excuse whatsoever is a poor one. The GTX 512 was a monumental failure, reaching phantom status. Nvidia will not make the same mistake with the 7900. I'm betting it will be only slightly faster overall, like the X850XT was, most people will wait for the next gen.

I think what you meant to say was that Nvidia brought SLI back to the public's eye. SLI or Crossfire are anything but "mainstream".

Thermal paste isnt an issue, some artic silver will do just fine.

I would recommend the 6800GT as well if you have your heart set on a new video card. Personally, I would save the money and save up for a whole new computer. Everything you've listed is pretty outdated and in need of an upgrade.

I'd be willing to bet in a blind taste test you wouldnt notice the diffrence between these two cards.... The X1900XTX, the GTX 512mb or the unrelease Nvidia 7900 will only get you better benchmarking numbers. Save your money!!!
