New SFF build advice (I'm a little rusty)

I built my current computer almost 3 years ago (I know, it's been awhile). It's a Shuttle SN95G5v3. I've loved it; a great buy, but now I'm getting the itch to possibly put together something new. This will be my primary comp; I watch a lot of HD content (and I might use it to drive an HDTV at...

HDTV resolutions -- 1024x768 is HD and widescreen?

I've been looking for a HDTV and noticed that many widescreen plasmas have a 1024x768 resolution. I don't get it...because it seems to me that 1024 / 768 = 1.333 = 4:3 aspect ratio. Also, I understand that 720p is officially 1280x720 (though many "720p" sets are typically 1366x768 for...

Halo 3 48-hr Xbox Live Gold Trial -- Code Swap!

I figured there are probably a bunch of people out there that already pay for Live memberships and don't need the trial code that came free with Halo 3. Perhaps we could start swapping codes here for people that need/want them?

    Vista: Network disconnect after inactivity

I find that when my Vista PC goes into sleep mode (monitor goes off, etc.) when I reawaken it the network has disconnected and must reconnect. This is slightly annoying because I like to run bittorrent pretty much all the time. Anyone know a solution? I'm using vista business if that is...

Beat Twilight Princess? How long did it take?

I just beat Twilight Princess. What a magnificent game! I'm curious how long it took others here to finish the game, so I figured a poll would do. I completed it in 36 hours, doing some extra stuff but sticking primarily to the main quest. Still, I was expecting it to be longer...

Trouble overclocking with 3700 San Diego

Because of the weirdness with A64s and memory dividers (plus poorly overclocking RAM), I am stuck with the 166Mhz divider which underclocks my DDR400 sticks of RAM to about 187Mhz. I wasn't happy with this, so I decided to try the 183Mhz divider through A64Tweaker, which brings my RAM up to the...

Anyone heard of this computer-building company?

I stumbled across this website: http://www.matinsystems.com/ Appears to be along the lines of an Alienware or what have you. Prices are kind of steep. Anyone tried them out before?

    Attachable speakers for Dell 2005FPW

I figured I would start in this forum to see if anyone had ideas...Anyhow, I've seen some sort of stereo speaker attached to the bottom of Dell LCDs. Does anyone know if one exists that works on the 2005FPW?

    VHS tape backup via PC

I'm looking to help a friend out with a TV tuner/capture card. He wants it solely for backing up old VHS tapes to DVD. So...he would need to record from a VCR to the HDD, then burn to DVD. I am a complete novice when it comes to this stuff. Any recommendations on the card? He's looking to...

    SN95G5 Temperature Reading? Wha?

As some of you may have read, I got my new SN95G5 up and running a few days ago. I am puzzled by temperature readings for the CPU, though. I have tried various third party programs (MBM, SpeedFan, etc.) to check temps as well as the BIOS. These range a good 10 degrees C or so (with the BIOS...

    Yay! My first SFF ordered.

After a couple months of indecision, I finally ordered the parts for my first SFF, an SN95G5. I got that, the San Diego 3700+, and a new DVD burner. I'll be migrating my X800 Pro, RAM, and sound card from my old PC. I can't wait! I'll probably have some pics then when I put everything together.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Please help! Game crash mid-level

I'm in a bit of a jam with Chaos Theory. I'm on the Bathhouse level, and at a certain point, the game always crashes. This point is after you go into to the room with a computer to discover who Shetland's contact is. When I access the computer and complete that objective, the game crashes...

    Torn between two Shuttles...

ST20G5 and SN25P. Both excellent platforms. I'm going SFF soon, and I can't make up my mind between the two. Any thoughts/recommendations? Here's the basics of what I'm planning: Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego Radeon X800XL Gig of Corsair XMS Probably a single hard drive, single optical...

    Splinter Cell Coop!

I've avoided playing Chaos Theory's coop mode for fear of it spoiling the single player plot. I'm not even sure if the two are related. Can someone enlighten me?

Do you have the Logitech MX Duo?

The Logitech Wireless MX Duo seems to be a pretty popular mouse and keyboard combo around here. I see it in a lot in pics posted on these boards. So...how many of you have the MX Duo? (I, for one, have it.)

    X800 XL: Perfect for SFF?

I just read up on the X800 XL and it seems to me that this baby is the perfect fit for a SFF. Supposedly quiet with low heat output. Its $100 lower pricepoint (well MSRP, anyway) than the X800 Pro baffles me considering it outperforms the Pro hands down. Buy, hey, I'm not complaining. I...

Dual core Athlons in a SFF?

Let's assume AMD sticks with Socket 939 for dual core processors (which appears pretty likely) and I get an SN95G5 (which also is likely). Will the Shuttle be able to effectively cool the dual core CPU? Or might I and other SN95G5 owners have to look to third party cooling solutions?

    Pink Cold Cathode! Joy!

I purchased a 'red' cold cathode awhile ago, put it in my case. To my chagrin, the light it emitted was more pink than red. It disgusted me. Now, it pretty much sits in my case, turned off. I'd like to have an actually red cathode, but I don't want to purchase a new tube. Some suggestions...

    Upgrade to Athlon64 and SFF?

I'm a college student looking to upgrade to an Athlon64 in the near future. Basically, I figured I would get a SFF PC plus the processor (3400+, maybe?) and transplant the rest of my hardware (X800 Pro, Audigy, CD and hard drives, and RAM) from my current full-size tower. Since I won't be...
