SMP FAH on VMware

Try 5 hours x 2 cores x 0.8 CPU load = 8.0 hours worth of core used.
Sounds about right.

Luck ............ :D

I guess i really didn't know how the CPU time deal worked, my real F@H cores i have the affinity set to iindividual cores.

now about the CPU time usage, i did a fresh VM install about 5 hours ago, and just checked the CPU time in task manager, it says 8 hours, what's that all about ?
You've used 8 "core hours". Just like at a job you can accumulate more man-hours than there are hours spent because there are more than one man, you can get more than one "core hour" per hour since you have 2 cores. Tigerbiten's math sounds about right.

yea, i sent a work unit through this setup, p3020_SMP-nsv-03 took my 170 opteron @ 2.52 about 23 hours start to finish, how fast is everyone else doing them ?

also does anyone know what this means as it shuts down, some kinda stats or something i have highlighted.................

i got this running on my 4800+ along with the gpu client, all seemed to be going well until it finished a unit and couldnt connect to the server. i restarted the system (vm) to try to fix the problem (before i stopped by FCF to see whats up) and now it wont start up again. it seems to freeze at "Bringing up interface eth0:" it has been sitting there for a good hour now.... restarting does nothing to help. any ideas? it was workin just fine.

Sounds a little slow. My AM2 @ 2.73 takes 16 hours to finish. I think there are problems with the 1.0.1 version of the VM server, the 1.0.0 one fixed every problem I had, including the time discrepancy with the system clock of my windows.

Do you have a DHCP server on your real network? You can change the network adapter to "NAT" mode and it'll work fine.

thanks for the help, mage but it seems to be working now. i left it run all night and it had booted up finally. i'll make the change to NAT to see if that helps it boot up faster, if not i'm not worried about it now that its working. :)

EDIT: now i gotta figure out why im not getting any work... that ahouldnt have anything todo with the DHCP right? since the client connects to an IP address rather than a URL.

i am now running the older version of VMware now and so far so good, not sure how long the frames are taking though, thanks for the heads up.

I got that shit too. I means the CPU is unstable, I had mine OCed and when I put it at default, it works again. It seems that the SMP is more picky, this never happened with my text clients.

damm, it is stable in everything else

Is it prime/orthos stable? Linux is also more picky about stability hardware-wise, I think.

Hi,

i got a prob and i dont know how to handle because i dont know a lot about linux.
I got a Core2Duo E6600 und on my 32 Bit Windows XP, i run a VMWare Server with a Debiun 64Bit Server (the torrent-iso).

anyway, when i start the 5.91 beta SMP-client, i got this message and nothing happens (no cpu-usage,..):
smp.gif

as i said, i am not a linux user and dont know how to handle anything in linux.
I type cat /etc/hosts in console and get these answer:
smp2.gif

What does i have to do, to fix the problem?

thanks!

This is a known bug, I think. See this thread on the FCF.

I didn't have any luck getting debian-x64 folding (but I don't remember what the issue was...); perhaps you could try the VM image I posted?

is it possible to switch to version 1.0.0 of vmware without messing up my WU or anything? or should i use -oneunit flag and wait till this unit is finished?

Oops - you mentioned Debian, but the screenshots show this is Fedora Core 3, which I posted. You've got the right thing.

Not sure why this is happening, and unfortunately for you I'm just about to go on vacation until Friday. I suggest you post at the FCF and see if they can help.

I just posted in the FC-Forum: http://forum.folding-community.org/viewtopic.php?p=159006#159006

just one more day, i completed the download of open-suse 10.2 - 64bit (>4 GByte) and i will take a tryout with the suse-linux (cause i got lil more expirience with suse). If a suse-VMWare dont work too, i will make a real installation on a second partition on my hard disc,.... still wanna know, whats the maximum ppd of my E6600 :D

AT stock timing you will prob get somwhere in the range of 1000PPD from an E6600. Overclocked to 3.2ghz (easy overclock) 1300PPD+

Well I downgraded to version 1.0.0 of vmserver and so far its much better, the time is correct and it seems to be folding faster as well. I think I messed something up before, it was taking WAY too long to fold, like it wasnt even 50% finished when the deadline hit.

EDIT: I just got the "many lost ticks. your time source seems to be unstable" error.... poo

Yup, 1.00 seems to be a more stable version.

is there a direct download link? I would be more than willing to host it, if someone is willing to upload it to my webserver.

As far as I know there is not one yet, but I can get right on that. It should be up sometime tomorrow :) (my hosting)

ICE_9: I'm uploading it already, it is just going kinda slow. It'll be here when it finishes, projected for about 4 hours from now.

I can put it on filefront in the morning if needed. Also, will start the torrent up again.

Oh right! We've got webhosting again!

I would like to make an update to this thing, but I don't have a 64-bit box to test on. Anyone have one accessible via RDP/VNC I could use for an hour or so?

edit: yea needs to be updated. New client, Unmount ISO, unmount 3.5 FD, maybe share folding dir so can hit from Windows to check log it needed (?)

He doesn't want to use your POS, he's gonna use mine!! :p

The one I usually use (Ubuntu 6.10 Server), uses about 180mb as well. Boots up faster too ;)
