GROW UP AND GET OVER IT ALREADY...!!!
AM2+ is not forward compatable and will not fit in an
AM3 socket...
AM2+ has 940 pins and AM3 has 938 pins... On an AM3
socket the holes are blocked where the 2 extra pins of the
AM2+ would go...
As far as PII is concerned, people need to get over it... It's
no different than nVIDIA...
Some may, some may not...
Engineering samples can be just about anything as they are made
for testing... Many times they may even fall short of the performance
of the retail poduct...
With an ES anything can happen depending on what it was
made to test... ;)
It shows AM2+ because it is an AM2+...
That chip has an unlocked multi... There are no unlocked multi's
schedualed for AM3 (only the AM2+ 940) with the exception of
the X3 720 (Tricore)... The roadmap only goes to the 3rd Qtr
though so there may be some after that, or AMD may add chips
to...

That means AM3 945 will launch sometime in April, May or June...
AM2+ 940 should launch by Jan. 8th 2009...
The OP claims to have an AM3 945...
I want to see pic's... ;)
How 'bout you just post all the info you read on the
top of that chip in this forum...?
Or better yet, post a clear pic... ;)
Curious... Why would someone unfamiliar with recent
AMD tech be given an "Unreleased" chip in the first place...?
Well, I can't speek for others but this is what I'm running...
Foxconn A7DA-S

And a BIOS for AM3 support has just been released...
Agreed...
OCW quite often has boards for review earlier than others
but they aren't as intensive in their testing methods as many
would like...
Usually, they concentrate on features and general operation
of the hardware with some O'clocking...
No real difference between them IMO... Depends on how many
G'cards you want to run...
The important thing is the SB750...
Early 790FX boards have SB600 and that doesn't give you any
advantage from ACC as the SB750 does... ;)
AMD describes the "Dragon" platform as being a Phenom II processor,
a 790GX/SB750 MB and one or more descrete 4000 series graphics
cards...
I believe they have something in store using the GX NB that they haven't
mentioned as yet... ;)
(Maybe something in conjunction with this...?)...
The latest from Fudzilla...
DDR3 Phenom will speed up 5 percent
Over DDR2
Source: http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=10821&Itemid=1
If that doesn't clear it up for those confused about the new
Phenom II's, I don't think anything will... ;)
AM2+ is DDR2 only...
AM3 has both DDR2 and DDR3 memory controlers...
DDR3 will only work on MB's with DDR3 slots... Though DDR2 and
DDR3 both use 240 pin, they are keyed differently... You can't put
DDR3 memory into a DDR2 slot or vice versa...
You WILL be able to run an AM3 CPU on...

So we might just see 4GHz on air after all...
And who knows what the AM3 chips may be capable of...
They should run just fine in AM2+/SB750 MB's, too... ;)
Can I say, "Told ya so"...
Another good memory possibility...

I'm...
I'd have to agree with harpoon...
You're older AM2 MB may run a Phenom, but it may not give the you
the same performance as it would on a newer SB750 board...
Also, xBanzai89 makes a good point...
The biggest CPU/GPU in the world will do you no good if it's got nothing to
feed...
In terms of CPU overclocking there is no difference, it's the
SB750 that matters here...
Only reason to spend the money on an FX is if you plan to
run more than 2 grahics cards... ;)
Sounds like a weak or failing PSU to me...
What PSU are you running (Make/Brand/Model Number)...?

Edit:
Sorry, you listed it earlier...
You really should put your hardware spec's in your signature
so they will be visible in every post... ;)
Another advantage of the SB750 over the SB600 (when using the
Phenom's) is ACC which doesn't work with SB600...
Using ACC you get that higer O'clock with less voltage and therefore
less heat...
SB750 is vastly supirior...
Keep in mind though that, at least at the moment, ACC only...
They're cheaper at Newwegg...

And they've got some great combo deals... ;)
3.2GHz with the AX78 is probably the limit seeing as
it uses the SB600...
Actually it's a great overclock for that MB/Chipset as
many don't get that far...
I'd say you'd need a SB750 MB to get farther than that
but Phenom's aren't great O'clockers so you probably
wouldn't get that much...
Don't know if this will help but I prefer RivaTuner
myself... Never had anything but trouble with CCC...

I think the plan is as I've heard it rumored..
They'll sell off 49% to a partner, keeping 51% and a
controlling interest, and then start taking orders from
others and compete with TSMC, etc., as maxius was
getting at...
I also agree that they are selling off old out dated
equipment as...
The IP45Pro is listed on the uabit USA site and the IP43 series
and IX38GT3 have been on sale in Europe for several weeks...
The IX58MAX may not make it (don't know) but uabit will continue
selling what boards have already been manufactured, or they have
pending contracts to manufacture...
