Respect and you're right that's what it's usually all about (i build, tweak, upgrade and recommend thrifty systems all the time), but this rig is my alpha rig - it's all about spastic oomph.
So on to the update.
I settled for a Q9400 which is a certainly bad ass chip so it's all good. I...
I own both boards but haven't had the opportunity to play around with the DFI LP Jr yet but i have to stress to you that the P5E VM HDMI is capable of 500 FSB with little drama and many settings left on auto.
400 FSB is nothing to the P5E VM HDMI. It's really that simple. The limit for this...
Interesting.
And yeah i do in fact run my RAM @ 1080mhz on a 7 x 450 CPU clock. ;)
As to not needing a new motherboard, it's not an issue because i already have it and have had it for a while. I had ordered the 4870X2 to compliment my P5E VM HDMI but when i went to pick it up, on the shelf...
This thing's crazy, but there's three (and a half) severe flaws.
1024 x 600 resolution screen (cuts down the gaming potential quite a bit).
The 9300m GS won't do 1024 x 768 with scrolling but the GMA950 will (but only under XP)
And when you overlock these little beasties your ethernet port...
[H]i,
I've had the P45 T2RS for months but been too scared to do anything with it. Well, not exactly, i've also been extremely satisfied with my P5E VM and due to the complexity of the DFI OC thing vs the simplicity of the Asus OC thing i just never had the urge to experiment with the DFI...
[H]i,
I'm thinking of swapping the coolers around on my 3870 and 4850.
I heard that 'any cooler that fits a 3 series ati card will fit a 4 series card', but at a glance it seems that some of the top capacitors on a 4850 will get in the way of the 3870 shroud.
I don't want to go to the...
If you're confident and experienced and it seems you are then go for it.
I've decided against a blow hole opting for a handle instead.
Temps in my case are fine really. I expected much more of a hit by cramming all my shit into this lil beastie.
36 - 40 degrees idle with my obscene...
Being thin aluminium i'd think about using a hole saw.
Finding a 120mm hole saw proved difficult for me, but a 111mm is quite common.
You can use the cheap 'for wood and plastic ones' on aluminium as thin as a SG03 but make sure you don't slip as a hole saw is. . . unforgiving.
Much...
Oh man, you're talking my language.
You're not female are you?
Bummer. .
Anyway, The reason i moved from a P180 Mini to an SG03 is because when i made the transition to mATX i certainly didn't make the transition to SFF.
A P180 Mini is larger than most ATX Mid Towers (certainly much...
That OC should be a piece of piss with any decent 800mhz RAM.
Try your RAM at 5-5-5-15 tho if it's not 4-4-4-12 by SPD.
The majority of failed OC's on decent 775 set ups come down to RAM.
Everything you've done looks very modest and safe so although i would raise the CPU to above 1.3...
Ah, that's an interesting detail.
My SG03 is quite new, about a month or two.
It's interesting that prior to the NT0E6's release the CPU height restriction on the SUGO series was that CPU cooler could not exceed 78mm.
Since the NT06E it's now stated as 82mm.
However, every SUGO (not...
LIES!
I'm posting this reply from a rig that sports an SG03 and NT06E heatsink.
It fits perfectly and it a beautiful thing to behold.
Perhaps the 'lip' of your SG03 is slightly bent downward or perhaps your NT06E is slightly bent upward. Either scenario is fixable.
To be clear...
Microfly BX6 (perhaps the rest too but i don't know for certain) or the Aero Cool Racer (BX6 clone) have exactly what you're looking for.
[Edit]
Ah, low profile . . my bad.
It seems from looking at the Specifications tab as the Asus website that the overclocking features listed are quite limited compared to it's big brother the P5Q-EM and the proven power house the P5E VM HDMI.
I share everyone's pain concerning the superior layout of this board over the other...
Not sure how relevant this is as i skimmed the first page but noticed the major gripe from the OP seemed to concern CoD4.
I have a 4850 and it's insano (for what is is) yet when i first maxed out CoD4 i had very high consistent frames but it was extremely choppy at times.
I have fixed it...
lol it's there.
Let's say you named your profile tweaked and saved it.
Just run a search and look for tweaked.xml
You'll find it. And when you do find it and look at the directory string you'll go 'doh!' as i did.
Um,
We use our drivers.
Catalyst Control Panel.
Unlike NPoo it lets us view our current clocks, our temperature, allows us to overclock our cards, change a multitude of display settings and with profiles and some simple text editing allows us to control our fans.
Sorry about the CPUz shot - my skin makes it hard to read.
So far so good!
5050 BIOS Limits me to 1.39 on the Northbridge and i'm scared anyway so i put it on 1.37.
Always prefer minimal voltage for OC anyway.
Not sure how stable she is.
To be continued.
[H]i,
I love my P5E VM, it's an awesome board and since i've come to realise that there is no dreaded bottleneck on a 16x PCI 1.1 lane for a 4 series ATI card i no longer care to upgrade this board for a P5Q EM (i'm still getting the DFI P45 Sex Micro tho for another project however, but...
Easily do'able.
I'm using ballpark AUS dollars here so you'll find that this stuff is cheaper in the US.
Mainboard: Asus P5Q Pro
CPU: Intel E7200 C2D
RAM: 2 Gigs OCZ Platinum 800 or 1066 (grab the 4 Gig kit if you're going to run a 64 bit OS)
HDD: Samsung or Western Digital SATA -...
P5Q EM or P5Q VM - Good choice.
Q6600 - Excellent value for money.
OCZ Platinum 8500 - great RAM.
ATI 4870 - Insane Card.
SG01 modified with SG02 face!? Why not an SG02 (superior internal design) with SG01 bezel (brushed aluminium FTW)?
Anyhow, Great CPU cooler, Kick Ass PSU and...
Nice build, very nice, although i'm not keen on the P5E VM DO.
Why not look for the P5E VM SE (or HDMI but the SE is cheaper).
P5E VM SE is not only a proven OC'er - it's dead sexy with its black PCB and lack of those ugly and obsolete serial and parallel ports.
Well that did help across the board but not by a great deal.
I wonder what is up with those writes.
I have such little experience with Phenoms so i really can't offer much more advice.
Unless you playing in resolutions above 1900 x 1200 (yes above that, not at that) you won't see any performance loss whatsoever.
Even above that the hit (and that is still debatable and contested) is around 10% max.
This is at 2500 x 1600 (and vs X48)!
So yea, don't worry about it -...
Well first of all your memory timings appear to me absurd.
I run 1066 Dominators @ 4 -5 -4 -15 1000 mhz.
I run 800 OCZ System Elite @ 5 -5 -5 -15 1000 mhz.
I run 1066 OCZ Platimum @ 5 -5 -5 -15 1088 mhz.
Try 5-5-5-15 for starters.
And if it won't hold, try 5-5-5-18.
You're read...
pvhk,
Please Make a New Thread Called "The DFI LP Jr P45 T2RS Thread" in this forum and link to it in this thread!
The GA G33 DS2R and P5E VM HDMI have their own, this board deserves its own!
Besides, this thread is 12 pages of speculation and involves more than just one board.
Give...
[H]i,
Calling all Microfly owners.
I've ordered an Aerocooler Racer from a Australian dealer to house my general purpose PC and i'm wondering if i've made the right choice. It was either the Racer or the SG02. Both are similarly priced though i am aware that the SG02 is generally...
I'm inclined to say this is normal as both my Corsair HX 620 watt and Antec Earth Watts 380
make the same noise when loading each test during 3Dmark06 (but just like you, not when actually running each test or during any gaming).
It's not a loud noise but it's clearly audible in a silent...
Whenever anyone thinks about building an HTPC i always ask them to be aware of the Sony PS3.
For Blue Ray, DVD's, AVI's, DivX, photos, casual websurfing, gaming, 1080p play back and DVD upscaling it's simply (and being a PC nut i do say this reluctantly) awesome.
If you're pricing up a...
I've got a P180 Mini, an SG03 and a Coolermaster Elite 340.
The P180 Mini is huge. It's the same size as your average ATX Mid Tower chassis, but it's wider too. The design and build quality is exceptional although there are a couple of things that irritate me with it, namely, the fact that...
Aside from the good advice concerning DRAM voltage, and this is a stab in the dark but i've come across it before. . . if you have another optical drive, preferably IDE, try installing windows from that.
I can't really justify my point here as it's a bit of a mystery to me too, but i've come...
