I had an x1950xtx - but it died a few days after using it. love newegg and they're taking it back. but i bought the SLI motherboard so i thought maybe i should buy a nvidia card so I can go SLI in the future if it proves worth it So that being said should I go SLI now for a total $400 cost...

i see you mention FSX - just dont expect it to look amazing.. FSX was not built on DX10, so you see no benefits of it yet. FSX was also built to be 'future proof' so even with your 8xxx card you wont be able to run at max res - don't post saying your pissed you spent $X on your new rig...

when did you have to start pushing voltage? i can run at 2.8ghz on stock volts, but then i get popping from my sound card...and I can't boot any higher than 2.8 with my 6400. -matt

hence the heading, I'm not using the x-fi, so i can't move it to another pci slot. By default i always put my sound cards in the furthest slot, and did so when i had my x-fi...but after doing a lot and not being able to fix it i said screw it, higher OC is worth more than the audigy to me...

no, it only happened when i bumped it up a few hundred Mhz. But im only running at 2.67 on this board, people with my board run at 3.2Ghz + so i dont know why im getting the popping, or what im not doing that fixes it...

so am i alone in this issue?

are the raptors in a raid array? you may need the raid drivers for the setup rather than the normal sata drivers. are you sure the drivers are extracted etc on the floppy?

well at this point as long as it works w/ my ram, and doesnt care that I run an X-Fi i'm happy. I also was considering the DFI Infinity board...but i hear it doesnt OC as well. is e-wiz reputable? its the same price at ewiz as i found the dfi for at newegg...

2gb of ram, DS3 motherboard, but do NOT get OCZ ram. Apparently the revision 2 ocz ram works ok, but I'm so fed up with my XTC crap...

yeah i'd grab a vga cooler too - the xtx stock cooler isnt too loud but I think you can do better, then again some people don't care about noise...but I run mine silent :) and if you do plan to OC a lot you'll need / want a different cpu cooler. That ram will work - but you can do better...

well, without having any crap ram to boot with when it all goes to hell I'm just going to leave it at the 2.6Ghz that its at right now...and order some crappy ram so I can recover when it inevitably doesnt boot.

Where do you set the timings in the bios, when i went in there were 8 different timing options to play with - so i just set the first four to 5 5 5 15. If I can get some GSkill for the same price I paid for my OCZ I'd be happy, I do plan to OC heavy though, I'd like to see this thing hit...

I dont get how you do that...I set my timing to 5 5 5 15 and the only way i can get my system to boot is by manually setting the FSB to 300, and the ram multi to 2.5 to give me 2.4Ghz with ram @750. it will NOT boot if i leave the cpu to stock speeds...this makes absolutely no sense to me!

ah - good to know...its booting at 2.6Ghz, for the life of me, it would not boot at stock speeds with my OCZ ram. Been on OCZ for years, looks like its finally gone down the tube... What do all of you guys who OC with a DS3 and OCZ ram do? If it doesnt post you just pop in some older crappy...

where do I set the ram timings on the ds3? I only see where to set the speed multiplier...

didn't try changing the SPD - only messed with voltages...but i did install the F7 bios while i had it up...I will try to borrow the ram again tomorrow or sunday.

well i did not have any luck getting the OCZ to boot in my system...could this be any more frustrating? I guess at least i know the mobo is fine and the ram sucks... I set the voltage to +.3 and no dice...ocz just sits there and does nothing. -Matt
