Hi all, it's been a long time since I was on here and I tried searching around so forgive me if this has been asked a hundred times!
Basically my old s754 rig gave up the ghost so I got a shiny new Asus A8V-VM mobo today, along with a new processor. I fitted it all in only to find there's a...
Another problem with BFG UK is that their cards are exclusive to PCWORLD (pretty much like Compusa in the US), who always do their best to scam as much money as possible out of Joe Bloggs. That means that their cards normally end up being the more expensive option for me (every time I've wanted...
Yep there is something pretty weird going on here.
I'm going to take it back to the guys it got it from when I get home from work (they're pretty cool on these things).
They'll hopefully be able to run some tests to find out whether it's just my card dying (I really hope it isn't).
The...
Which forcewares should I go to then? I used to roll on 70s, but I still had the problems on them.
I took a video of it trying to do the hl2 stress test (which is meant to be one continuous motion) with my phone. The quality is crap, but it kinda shows what I mean...
Hi guys,
I've got the following system:
MSI K8N Neo Plat S754 mobo
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ S754
1024mb Kingston HyperX memory
Galaxy Glacier Geforce 6800GT (with an nvsilencer stock fitted)
Big Fat Antec Trueblue PSU (480W I think)
and I think that's about all that matters. Nothing is...
Runs fine for me on 1280 x 1024 with AA *points to sig* except for one time when i was in a tank that got blown up and everything starting stuttering and lagging like I was back on the Willamette with the 32mb Radeon 7200, but it only lasted 5 seconds and then everything was normal, so it may...
Ok I have managed to dig out the motherboard's manual that was hidden away in a dark place and it does indeed have a 440LX chipset and the maximum supported processor speed is 333MHz. Looks like this adventure's over then :(. Thanks for the answers anyways everyone.
I might just have to get an athlon xp 2000 (£20) and a SocketA mobo for another £20 then. Thanks for the answers guys, anyone have any ideas how I could go about getting a cheap case that woulld slot into my living room? I'm thinking of getting a bog standard case and modding it a bit.
Sorry I'm not all too clued up about this stuff. I was clearing out the garage today and found the old gladiator Pentium 2 233MHz system in pieces. It all still works ecept the hdd, so my idea was to just get a faster slot 1 processor off ebay and turn it all into a htpc system. However, I'm not...

Well it wouldn't even POST with my Ti300, but when i swapped the 9600 PRO for an identical one I bought for another build it worked fine, so I'm guessing it's a dodgy card. RMA here I come :(
Alright I have now managed to stop it BSODing me everytime I boot up by using driver cleaner to eliminate any trace of catalyst. The problem now is that everytime I try to install an older version of catalyst, it gives me some stuff about no video driver detected and telling me to install one...
I have an Aopen SFF PC with the following specs:
EZ65 XCUBE
3.2GHz Pentium 4C (Northwood)
1gb Corsair Valueram
200GB WD Caviar SATA HDD
256mb generic ATI Radeon 9600 PRO
Now I installed windows xp and it worked fine. Then whenever I attempt to install any form of catalyst, it seems to...
I'll be buying myself a new identical mobo tomorrow and I'll try hot swapping with that to see if it works. If that fails I'll just have to buy a new bios chip.
everything is in order and I tried the recovery thing, but it didn't seem to do anything and I left it for a while. Im about to try hot swapping the bios chip now - it's all or nothing now
I do have a floppy drive - I bought a new one today. I was trying to flash from it when the power originally went and screwed the bios. It doesn't seem to read from it when I press alt + F2. I'm gonna cut my losses for today and get a PLLC extractor tool tomorrow and probably try a hot swap with...
Okay I checked my motherboards, and I can't hot swap I don't think, so my A8V is an AMI bios and my Neo Plat is a Phoenix bios :( I'll try and find out how to try that emergency thingy though
EDIT: I forgot to add that my dvd drive seems to power up if that means anything
EDIT 2: That recovery...
I just tried to update my bios on my asus a8v deluxe and the power went after it had erased the old bios, but not programmed the new one. I really need to get this fixed before the end of the weekend and I have no idea how to fix this now. My motherboard won't POST at all, so I defo know it's...
Meh my original SP2 install was on a fresh install and I am just not a big fan of it. Next time there's some major hole or virus (a la blaster) I may then go back to SP2, but for now I'm sticking.
What if you have more than 1 computer you want to install it on. This used to be the case for me, as we only have one computer with an internet connection, yet both are gaming quality pcs. I eventually ended up having to buy wireless networking stuff, so it's okay for me now, but there must be...
Well I did install SP2 but then all of a sudden my PC went weird, like going from ~10s to shutdown to 3-4 minutes and then one day it stopped booting into Windows (says it was missing some files) so now after reinstalling I've just decided to stick with SP1 and Autopatcher. TBH I don't really...
From what i've seen the best appear to be the XP-90 (120 is just too big) and the Zalman Alcu one forgot the number. TBH I don't think you'd go wrong with either.
But there's more options to save money and not lose out THAT much in terms of performance. Over here in the UK you can get a 256mb DDR3 X700 Pro cheaper than the equivalent 9800 Pro, ditto for the 6600GT. IMO I went OTT with a 6800GT, seeing as my monitor can't go any higher than 1024 x 768.
Are you using SATA 1 and/or 2? I had the same problem with mine. Turns out SATA 1 and 2 aren't lcked, cauing hard drive corruption and whatnot. I too wasn't able to get past 235HTT. Then after I switch my drives from 1 and 2 to 3 and 4 it worked fine and I was able to get up to 240HTT...
