dont get it from another site...
go to sites like fatwallet or slickdeals and search "2005fpw":
if you're patient, wait for some stackable coupons...the lowest it has ever been is around 330.
if you want it now, look for coupons and see how low you can get it for. 400 is a good point...
for those still curious about the lines:
"One thing we did notice was that the displays looked like they had extremely low refresh rates. You could see the screen refreshing much like a CRT set to 60Hz. Granted the technology is still pre-production so that could explain the issue."
"The...
they've sent me a refurb once (on my like fifth 2005fpw that suffered backlighting problems). it had a huge sticker (EDIT: sticker on box) that marked it refurbished. the boxing is different and obviously so. apparently they do plug in and "test" these monitors..though their standards are low...
in my opinion:
still picture quality:
lcd > crt
i prefer the the vivid, crisp, and sharp image over the more accurate but blande look of crt images. but i do miss my blacks, and perfect color uniformity.
motion picture:
crt >> lcd
lcd ghosting is distracting and very obvious IF i...
i thought my ps2 and gc games looked like crap on my 2005fpw. the graphics are alot smoother on tv. the graphics of gc and ps2 games look too pixely. plus there's ghosting. i am sure it's the same for it's bigger brother. just my opinion though.
what does it look like? have a pic?
i use to clean my crt screen with windex, when i didn't know better. it didn't ugly up the screen, all it did was just kill the anireflection coating and made it glossy. which wasn't too bad.
maybe you can keep cleaning it until it becomes completely...
uh, why dont you keep it in one thread or atleast explain your previous thread to show your appreciiation towards the situation. i would have bashed this thread had you not came out to explain your disatisfaction with their customer service, and not with them not replacing.
anyways...
you are pretty much guaranteed to get less eyestrain, but complete elimination depends on your eyes, distance, and usage.
but isn't less alone worth it?
i like the D-base, i also like the dell logo. i've seen a lot uglier looking screens, i find dell designs one of the better one. the only thing i would have liked more is slimmer and flat side frame.
if you really want it...
my guess is it'll hit around $550 or less in a week or two, if you can wait that long. no guarantees though. but dont worry, the price will get lower...
depends on the settings. on high @ native, i suspect it will struggle in certain spots of the game...and you will probably have to say good bye to AA and stuff.
but for the most part, it'll do the job. i suspect this wont be the case sometime from now when new games come out though.
the...
i feel ya...
the 2005fpw obviously suits best with the best videocard in the market. but a good one like my 6800nu should do just fine. it'll be a comprimise though...but ask yourself, is this strickly for gaming? if it is, perhaps a 19" or 17" lcd with a native resolution of 1280x1024...
be happy, sub pixels are the best of its kind (most i've seen blends pretty well). a full blown stuck is the worst (often colored on black, bright), followed by a dead (black on white).
you should probably list if the pipes are unlockable. i know you haven't o/c or u/l it...but you should give it a try, it doesn't harm the card in anyway.
dont be so eagered to get windows xp 64 yet...
just wait till it releases, then more companies will provide patches for the new platform. as of right now, you'll just run 32bit programs/games worst.
i dont get a paper crushing sound, but someone different...very loud though. i think it's common for crts. if everything works, it should be no biggie.
one part is already defective? rma that bitch. wouldn't want to get screwed down the road.
or you could always do a reformat, and install all drivers that came with the hardware...these are drivers that are proven to work.
uh you missed the point...in everyone of these threads i've read...some guy always make this smart, yet pointless, claim.
but this statement is meaningless in solving his problem. what the op wants is to maximize the performance of his rig. so what if his games ran smoothly, that wont...
you scores are way to low, and it's a driver issue.
OK. i had the same problem and went through all this crap trying to fix it, wasting many many hours. the problem lies in people misinforming newbs to download the *latest* drivers.
do this:
1. download driver cleaner.
2. uninstall...
steviep:
it's because you're new to the lcd arena, so you're being pretty picky since you are used to the "perfect" crt screens. i dont blame you, the transition can be tough.
if you haven't done a few/any exchanges yet, i guess give it another try...and keep the better of the two if you...
i honestly think you'll *forget* about the flaws after using it for a month or so. i remember when i was stuck with one that had like 7 dead pixels, and some annoying neon green and red ones in the middle.
i eventually got used to it. and never really cared for it or paid any attention to...
looks fine...the peach is normal. the subdead pixel doesn't look too annoying. backlight is looks good.
if this screen still bothers you, just *return* it...dont bother for an exchange, cause it'll take you a few more tries before you get one better than this (if ever, depending on your...
wow 60hz? no doubt it damaged your vision...60hz is so painfull for my eyes. i cant stand staring at it so close. there's a huge difference between 60-75, like a major thresh hold point.
heck, i am sensitive to anything below 100hz. which at that point, still annoyed me...so i switched to...
man i really hope dell made sure these aren't going to have backlighting issues...
i think it's in their best interest to do so, imagine people exchanging 3-4 of these ~$1400 monitor to dell...that should hurt.
has dell done anything to give you the suspection that not all of the 1905fp are pva? seems pretty inconvenient to manufacture a few pva and the rest something else. maybe they might change it sometime from now. as a few manufacture has with some of their panels (hyundai for example).
but...
lol...my desk is normally that clean for one day of each month, before i graduallymess it all up again.
but if you keep it that nice and clean, it seems more like a waste of desk space.
after a *few* exchanges, i managed to get a perfect one...and it feels great, to own such an awesome lcd at this price ($500, at the time).
man, i didn't realize this thread has over 1000+ posts! crazy. meaning it has about 800+ comments backlight issue...lol.
also, anandtech is going to...
here's how it works:
first request = nice.
failure to comply, for no appropriate reason = absolutely pissed off!
i think it's unacceptable that they will not take care of it.
who are they to say it was "foreign influence", he obviously doesn't know and is plainly "guessing" because...
they are both great for gaming...
comes down to if you want games on widescreen or 4:3, keeping in mind that not all games support widescreen...so you may need to run it on aspect, causing it to be more like a 17" lcd.
but most major games, and new ones support widescreen. ea sport games...
i think it's crappy coding...
sometimes i would be at around 70fps, then drops to 30fps, then back up...
what annoys me is when the game studders though...cant seem to fix it either. i would blame my 512mb ram, but it studders too often...and only on half life 2 not doom 3 or any other games.
