I just got Logic Express as an "upgrade" to Garageband.
Small problem with Logic - it only lets me select one CoreAudio driver, and then seems to insist on using that for input and output.
I like to record through my interface but monitor on my iBook's headphone jack - in Garageband it...
All the Core Duos on Newegg ATM are Socket 478... I was under the impression that LGA775 is a newer socket type than 478. So why are they putting out their best chip with an old school socket that many boards don't support? Someone please shed some light on this as I would love a Core Duo.
My two year old Sony T610 supports Java, and you can drop compatible .jar's on it using bluetooth. However, there is a Java API called Jini which is what these phones use (so I read in one of my Java books, anyway) so you might have to get documentation for the specific functions of that API.
The director of technology (who would be using the product the most) is actually very supportive of open source - he has been replacing Dreamweaver with Nvu and the like.
I realize, however, that the school will own some of the rights as they provided the spec. However the product may be...
My friend and I are planning to write some custom software for our school over the summer. We are of course going to be compensated for our time and effort.
However, we definitely like open source and free software, so we are looking for creative ways to license it that ensure we are...
This is true... when I run pmset -g, "sms" does indeed show up with a status of 1 (meaning it is enabled and will park the drive on a sudden gravity change).
However, if you take a look at this page:
http://www.kernelthread.com/software/ams/
They say that the value "ams" should also be...
Hey guys,
I just formatted a 12" 1.33Ghz iBook G4 with a backup of my old 800MHz... I already copied the Scrolling Trackpad driver from the stock install image to get that working.
Now, however, I am trying to get the Apple System Profiler to show that Sudden Motion Sensor is supported on...
Hey guys,
I have asked my question here and on MacNN.com and received mostly blank stares... I also tried the #macosx channel on freenode. Any more suggestions for where I might get a conclusive answer? I am trying to find out if I can replace my (dead) 800MHz G4 iBook motherboard with a...
Looking at photos of the two boards (800mhz and 1.33ghz) they look almost exactly the same. Almost.
And the logic board install guide on PBFixIt.com is identical for all the models.
May as well give it a go...
I've done all the software stuff possible (safe mode, single user, even a Linux boot CD) and I've narrowed the problem down to the video card or the onboard RAM. (When the Linux boot disc inits the video driver, it hangs, and the screen saver expedites the crashing under OS X).
So basically...
Removed my extra RAM, didn't help...
I also booted from my backup (of a few days ago) from my Firewire HD, still froze.
This is starting to seem kind of serrious... Ideas? :-\
Hey guys...
Long time no post.
Anyway, today, randomly, my iBook (see sig) randomly started freezing up. Literally freezing as in mouse, clock and other stuff just stops moving. For about a week I've been having to reboot it because "Mac OS X quit unexpectedly" (don't believe me? I took...
I'm considering getting a PSP as a portable media center (big, gorgeous screen), so I'm wondering... how many 45-minute TV episodes (scaled to the right resolution and bitrate for the PSP) have you guys been able to fit on 512MB and 1GB memsticks? How does the MP4 codec compare to things like XviD?
Ghetto functionality is certainly cool, although I'm sure Apple !!!!!!z will get on your case for disgracing something beautiful.
You should see the cooling on my server...
Apple makes the iPod, which is approaching PDA. Of course it's no replacement, but it's getting there. They've already shows an interest in adding contacts, games, and now video. There have also been whispers of an iTunes phone. So Apple is definitely taking steps to break into the market...
i love the iBook as a traveling companion. Not the most powerful machine, definitely not as powerful as a desktop iMac, but for the tasks you describe I think you would find it much more convenient.
Plus, once you figure out how cool it is, you'll WANT to take it everywhere.
I would get...
I usually use then to test projects. 3.3,5, and 12v are pretty common voltages, and those old school PSUs usually have more than enough power to test out whatever I'm working on...
I build computers for my girlfriend (and her parents), and I always try to get them the best parts I can within the budget that they give me. I don't care if their stuff is better than mine - her Powerbook outspects my dinky iBook two to one, but it doesn't matter to me...
Plus, when I'm...
Okay, so I'm 90% certain that I'm going for the Phidgets LED64 board. Now I have another stylistic/design question that I need some opinions on...
Like I said there will be 4 LED clusters, one in each roof corner of the room. However, I don't want bare LEDs glowing in my eyes, so I want some...
Wow! Thanks for the link
Bit on the pricey side, and each LED has to have a wire leading back to the central board, that could get messy. Maybe if I can condense the wiring to the LED clusters into serial or Cat5 cables, it would make it a lot neater.
The website seems to only mention...
I'm looking to build a computer controlled mood lighting system for my room using LEDs.
I came across many USB-IO chips and boards, but I don't know if they are adequate...
My initial setup will involve 64 LEDs (4 clusters of 4 LEDs of 4 colors). I keep seeing that all these boards take...
Yes. I had an iBook G3 that died (and was replaced by this machine), which I was going to give the full clear blue treatment.
I'm looking into other possibilities for keyboards. There was a site a long time ago that sold clear blue keyboards, but it has long died...
Remember my iBook G4 with the black keyboard?
It got an 80GB hard drive when the 30 died last week...
and clear blue plastic model paint on the Apple logo and sleep LEDs
I was going to just use blue cellophane, but then decided that with paint, I could make it all swirly and...
I know it says "Standard Cat5 cable is not recommended for 1000BaseT distances over 25 ft" in the FAQ, but...
My house is wired with a ragtag assortment of Cat5 and Cat5e. How much speed loss can we realistically expect across a Cat5 segment measuring ~110ft? 500-600mbps or less?
