WOW... That was it man... I had always set the AA and AF in the nvidia control panel so that was normal for me. I left it at application settings and set it in the game and it runs top notch.
I just hope other games I have allow for these settings to be set in the game as well.
Thanks again...
Hello,
I have a GeForce 7800 GTX and I just re installed Windows for the first time in a while to try out some games that I cant play or play well in Linux.
So, I install the OS and all is well. I install the latest nvidia driver from their web site (91.47) and configure it like I used...
On the contrary, I find that Windows is not able to satisfy my needs as a professional (SR. Linux Administrator/Network Engineer), so his comments were a benefit to me as I have been granted the luxury of choice...
Any way, Linux has for years supported SMP/Dual Core systems and, in the Linux...
Yeah, just boot from it and there should be an icon on the desktop that will allow you to install the OS. Just pay attention to the wording when it comes time to choose a partition. You want to select the best option that will use the whole disk...
Hope this helps... And Good Luck. You wont...
[THREAD HIJACK]
I have been using Linux since the mid 90's and in all that time, I have only heard of 5 virus that did ANY kind of damage to a Linux machine; and that was back in 95, 96. How can 5 virus be deemed "Prevalent?"
There have...
I think you want the desktop iso's... Look here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/download
Hope This helps, and good luck. I love Ubuntu; actually, I use Kubuntu as I prefer KDE :)
Ok, I havent used Windows XP in a while and I want to try out some new games, so I was dowloading drivers for my hardware and I noticed that on the nvidia site, they list 2 possible drivers for my nForce 4 motherboard (Epox 9NPA+SLI). On is the nForce4 AMD/Intel X16 and one looks like a...
Hello,
I am mostly a Linux user, but I got Windows XP home so I could try out some new games.
I was reading some web sites to learn how to improve performance on my machine and one thing that was mentioned was to limit the amount of items that the security log watches so the machine is not...
I did a quick search on Google, and found this article. I don't do this sort of thing, but it might be of some use to you.
I noticed that it mentions several software packages, so this might get you off to a good start.
Also, Linuxjournal (linuxjournal.com) had an article about this a bit ago...
I love this release.
I too tried Ubuntu/Kubuntu a while ago (Breezy?) and I was meet with all kinds of performance and other software issues.
I installed the new one (Version 6) and I must say that it whips the pants off my Arch install. Its amazing the amount of broken packages in...
If you go to the Transgaming web site (www. transgaming.com), they have a 15 day trial you can use to see if you like it.
I would not recommend using Wine unless you know what you are doing. Cedega takes all the pain out of installing and most games "Just work" after you install them...
VERY nice man...
Did they fix the Window decorations with XGL and KDE, or do you still have to run the gnome-session manager or something like that?
Joe
I am quite surprised actually to see so many people "Clame" to want to move over to Linux when Vista comes out. Good for you all... I think its time that people start seeing that the technology just now coming out in Vista has been available in Linux for years.
As for me, well, you guessed...
I don't mean to tag team here, but this one of the many reasons I love Linux. It has always worked on my hardware (For the 8 years I have been using it) and it does "Just Work."
Now, It wasn't always like this, but with the inception of dbus and hal, some great Kernel patches, and REAL...
I don't have one of those cards, so I cant speak for them, but my buddy at work does and he uses Linux. So it probably works, but might not have all the features enabled (Seeing that its proprietary technology). I can see what he says about them; he might have brought it back and got a card that...
How do you figure this?
The Nvidia 7900 GTX's Linux drivers were released the same day as the card (Along with the Windows Drivers). Same with the 7800's and 6800's. In fact, ALL Nvidia's stuff is supported at the same time as the Windows drivers. Not sure about ATI.
I have never had to...
Agreed...
When I install Windows, I have to actually install chipset drivers, video drivers, audio drivers, network card drivers, joystick drivers (Saitek X45 HOTAS), mouse drivers (For fully functional buttons), drivers for every piece of hardware I own... Not to mention a shit load of...
I use my Audigy2 card, 5.1 Logitech speakers, and Amarok for music and I think it sounds allot better than on Windows with the same 5.1 sound.
I use the Xine engine for Amarok and it is amazing. I have tried WinAMP on the windows side, but it is just lacking compared to Amarok in sound and...
Ahhh... I think I understand what you mean by mouse lag now...
I went to the Dell site forums and someone there was having similar issues you are all having and offered a test to show everyone what was going on using a MS Notepad window. By grabbing the corners and/or the sides of the window...
Well, I do not doubt that a CRT is going to offer a much more clear image than ANY LCD screen. But, I have used several CRT's (Mostly 19 in) and several LCDs (17in up to my 24in) and, from a LCD prospective, I don't notice any different lag or any other anomaly that I don't see on any other LCD...
Well, on my 24in monitor here are my responces...
1. I got this a little on my NEC monitor, but not on the 2405 at all. Smooth movement in all FPS games I play. I do notice, however, that when I play Quake 4 or Doom 3 in Windows, I get some tearing, but in Linux, there is none at all.
HL2...
WOW... Interesting. I checked out some of the major reviews especially on HarOCP and the ATI card looks to have lower performance than even the 256mb cards... I think I will keep my 7800 ;)
Thanks!!!
Joe
Just need feedback on my situation.
Currently, I have a GeForce 7800GTX 256 and I wanted to get another one for SLI, however, I was also looking at getting an SAPPHIRE RADEON X1900XT
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102003) to replace the 7800.
Will a second 7800...
Well, when you are comparing a CRT to any LCD, the CRT is going to win hands down. And I gave the hard drive comparison simply because the difference with the 2405 and my NEC was only 4ms. Its silly to think, as others have stated, that 4ms is going to create screen lag.
As was also suggested...
I have also NOT noticed any lag and my last monitor was a 6ms monitor. This monitor performs very well in Linux and Windows and with games like Quake 4, Doom 3, Half Life 2 and mods, UT2004 and mods, and tons of other games.
I even run games lower than the recommended 1920x1200. Most all my...
Got mine today and I love it. Nothing out of the ordinary as far as problems go, however, I was a little weirded out that if I use my DVI, I can't adjust my contrast. And the brightness has to be way up, but it looks realy nice...
Runs great in Linux as well for those that want to know. Games...
Ok, I was wondering. I have read on some sites that D-Sub inputs
offers better performance than DVI inputs. However, on other sites, I hear the opposite.
What is the final verdict on this. If I use D-Sub, will I get better FPS is games over DVI? Also, does DVI offer a clearer image then D-Sub...
I did a quick search on Google and most of the hints I saw with your error messages appear to point to a failing hard drive (Or device connected to /dev/hda (First IDE port on
channel 1)) or possibly a bad cable.
Could also be a bad connection between HDA and HDB (Do you have a slave...
Well, wouldn't you know it. After over an hour of Doom3 and Quake4, the system crashed on X-Plane. Then, after a reboot, Doom3 and Quake4 were not stable either.
Oh well, stability is what I really look for in computers, I suppose if I want a faster processor, I will buy one... Even though...
Interestingly enough, what I did was left the multi at 11 and set the HTT to 230 and now I am running at 2531.565. I had to bump my cpu voltage to +.1, and lower my HT to 4x instead of 5x and I just finished playnig Doom3 and Quake4 for about an hour. Seems stable enough now.
I did, however...
Well, according to the information in this thread:
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=795444
to overclock your system you have to take several things into account. FSB(or HTT), Memory ratio, and CPU multiplier.
The document describes the most efficient way to over clock is to raise...
Well, I read that if the FSB (Or htt) is higher than stock, you will yeild greater performance. So, in order to get such a high htt setting, I had to lower the CPU mult.
Joe
Ok, I said I would not overclock because of the dangers to the hardware, and here I am trying it out :-P.
I have an AMD X2 4400 with the Thermalright SI-120 and a big ass fan on top. Stock settings, I sit at around 32 to 34c idle and under load about 38c to 40c.
Now, I have been reading about...
