Friend/client wants to get rid of old exchange server

Until it breaks.... From experience, I'd never recommend a Mac Mini is used for anything mission critical. Disk in a Mac Mini as standard are only 5400rpm is just one example of why not. Need a second nic or add in card for some reason, just install one. Oh wait, that won't work.. Great little...

Friend/client wants to get rid of old exchange server

I'd be considering O365 hosted email as well, integrates nicely without Outlook for Mac or built in mail client and will work great through the web and with mobile devices. Depending on the number of users in the office / client I'd possibly be advising he cancel the order for the Mac Mini...

    Self Service VM Provision

Thanks guys, so vCloud would be the ideal environment and is essentially an off the shelf solution for self service provisioning? vCloud looks pretty steep on pricing for managed VMs. For lower cost, as I say we already have vCenter licence (and so orchestrator), and as this is for our test...

    Self Service VM Provision

I'm looking to setup a self service portal for VM provisioning. I've read that this might be possible with VMware Orchestrator and since we already have a vcenter licence this might be ideal. I'm also considering a more custom setup with a PHP form translating to a script to run against vcenter...

Vista remembers last disk in ROM drive.

Vista 32bit and 64bit. Ultimate, Business and HP. Reinstalled the computers several times. I'll see if I can flash one of the drives maybe that will fix it.

Vista remembers last disk in ROM drive.

Been having this irritating problem on several computers, home and work. Basically Vista remembers the last disk that was in the room drive. Takes a reboot for my computer to show the drive as being empty. Also been having a lot of problems with Vista showing burnt cd's and dvd's as being...

    Question about SIDs

I've been playing around with ghosting machines and want to know if I'm likely to encounter any SID problems. At the moment what I've been doing is building the machine on the domain just the same as I would if I wasn't going to ghost it. Then to ghost it I unplug the network cable, change it...

    AVI Codec?

I'll just assume your not breaking any copyrights with this one. What codec you need will depend on what you used to encode it. Try the xvid codec to start with theres a good chance it might be what you used. Install VLC player to play the file.

Using an Oem key in a Vm on the pc the oem key is tied to?

From what I've read all so called home user edition of windows XP home, pro, all versions of Vista and 2000. Fall under the requirement that you need one licence per running instance. For servers you get 4 virtual licenses included in your physical machine licence. So if you have a server...

You could try writing a batchfile that will check if the version installed is greater than the version on the network drive. Then stick it in the startup folder for all users.

Vista 64 bit, 64 bit apps as default

OK, Vista 64 is set to use Internet Explorer 7 32-bit as default and Media Player 32-bit as default. I'm looking for an easy way to set everything to run native 64-bit. Anyone know all which apps are set to default to 32-bit and an easy way to change them over. Yes I know there will be...

    Vista ReadyBoost Question

I think CF is probably faster but in the real world you won't notice any real difference. More RAM is always good if your gonna be spending money but readyboost is different to superfetch. From what I understand superfetch will preload apps into RAM for use, whereas readyboost will load some of...

What are the actual advantages Vista has over XP?

I bought Vista because I work in IT and I figured I'm going to have to check out this new OS that everyone’s going to be using, I put Vista on my media centre machine because I got a free copy of it from the Dell upgrade scheme and thought why not. Advantages that I see: Navigation...

i ran windirstat, I am referring to the Vista install as I said, my games and apps that i have installed take up approximately 15GB, everything else is windows. I understand that it will be system restore and volume shadow copy. Just never realised it would be so much. Windirstat showed 19GB...

Fast Loading XP vs Feature-Rich Vista

Just realised I didn't actually answer your question. Oops. Stick with Vista, have you played around with hibernate, maby it will cut some of the boot times your seeing. Just remember and do a full reboot every now and then.

Fast Loading XP vs Feature-Rich Vista

My boot time is way faster now that I've switched to Vista and I love that as soon as I enter my password and the desktop loads everything is usable right away. No having to wait for minutes for everything to finish loading. From the time I first see the desktop I can immediatly enter the start...

Accessing server to run 3DSM remotlely?

I've no doubts you could do this easily however i don't think it would be very comfortable for him working. I would expect a lot of lag, especially with a program that has lots of graphic movement on the display. The issue of there being big files would not be relevant as they would most likey...

multiple users logging into a server...

I would think what your looking to do would be to set up a small domain using either server 2003 or Small Business Server. I think SBS would be more straight forward. You create a user for each person you need. Create each user a folder and map it as their H drive or whatever. Change the...

    Does Vista still Suck

I have to say I'm actually seriously impressed with Vista. Practically an unattended install. Downloading all needed drivers via windows update and so far the only apps I've had any problem whatsoever with was trying to find a good free 64bit antivirus.

    Raptors for OS and games

Ok I think you got two ways to go on this. You could have the 150 as your OS, games and page file drive or you could have the 150 for your OS, games and a seperate drive for your page file (A 150 raptor preferably). The second option would give you slightly better performance but a is more...

Another vote for AVG free or NOD32. Personally I user AVG free on all my systems and can't speak highly enough of it. I've used NOD32 as well its just as good if you're one of those folks who believe it must be better if it costs more. Also, consumer Norton is absolute crap, as posted by...

2x74gb vs 2x150gb raptor in RAID 0, big difference?

From what i've read the 150 is 2x 75 GB platters and the 74 is 2x 37 GB platters

2x74gb vs 2x150gb raptor in RAID 0, big difference?

Dunno about a big difference but the 150's will definitely be a bit faster because of the higher density platter. The 74 is essentially the same drive that was released back in 2004 but with 16 MB cash, support for NCQ and a SATA interface.
