If you can see it you can measure it and show others what you are seeing. That's there is too it. You can't fault anyone for not believing you without any data.
For computer hardware I just buy the best (or the best I can afford) at the time I'm buying. Playing the waiting game doesn't work because there's always something better around the corner. However if there's something new within the month then I'll wait for that to see how prices pan out. Any...
Have you disabled other sound devices on your system?
I know I get game crashes if both my Auzentech soundcard and nvidia audio devices are active at the same time. You can either uninstall the drivers for the nvidia/realtek/AMD sound or you can just disable them in device manager.
If you want a cheap combo DAC/AMP that's also gives a pretty good sound, look at the Fiio E10. I switched to the Fiio E10 from a Auzentech HT HD soundcard due to noise.
/edit: I'm using Audio-Technica ATH-W1000X headphones for reference.
Wouldn't the more appropriate comparison be with the A900s?
Interesting comparison anyway. A friend of mine did a similar test between Denon D2000 and A-T A900 and very much preferred the A-Ts. I think the take home message is everyone should try before they buy as everyone has different...
Seems a little snappier on iOS5 than 4.3.5 on my 3GS. All the new improvements to iOS5 revives the 3GS a bit. I'm sticking with 3.1.2 on my wife's older 3G iPhone however. That said, 2 new 4S' arriving tomorrow! :D
Yes.
I have one DVI output directly to a monitor. The second DVI goes to soundcard > soundcard HDMI out to receiver > receiver HDMI to HDTV. Sound works fine when HDTV is off.
KEF doesn't necessarily mean it's good but probably better than your average speaker. KEFs (different model to this) didn't sound too good to my ears in comparison to some other brands at the same price point. But this is a good deal for starters either way.
Price looks pretty stable for these:

Still, it's a good set of headphones for this price. However, I prefer Audio-Technica's at a similar price since they're easier to drive.
It won't fit. Not with the PSU there at least. I tried mounting it facing down in a CM832 and there wasn't enough clearance. I ended up buying a H50 to replace the TRUE120 I had and mounted the spitfire up.
If you're looking at Denon receivers, set up some deal alerts at places like slickdeals. Their current models are going to go on clearance for the new models soon. The Denon 3310 was being sold for $650 a week ago (to make way for the 3311).
Budget yourself so you spend ~75% of your budget on...
The main reason for using HDMI for me is the reduction in electrical noise. I had an X-fi extrememusic with analog outputs but the noise was too annoying. I liked what the x-fi set gave me and wanted HDMI on top so the Auzentech x-fi HTHD was the natural upgrade.
In regards to music play, I...
It's not quite passive, but with a fan blowing on it from the CM832 side panel fan rack. I'll try and get a photo tomorrow. Think I may need a bigger case :S...
I just installed this a few days ago and I'm impressed so far.
Idle temps on the 480GTX (dual monitor setup) from 79degrees to 55degrees. Load temps from 10minutes furmark tops out at 88degrees. This is all done with a less than optimal setup, I don't have a fan attached to the spitfire but...
I remember mine had a little clearance between the capacitor and supports... Anyway, I switched from a TRUE120 to a Corsair H50 and the temps are about the same (maybe a little better at load) but there's much more room in the case now. You might want to consider it.
If not better it will at least clear up some of the clutter and allow better overall case air-flow. I switched from a TRUE120 to this and it just looks a lot cleaner (a few degrees cooler off load temps helps too :P).
Exactly what I was suggesting with my post above. People who are saying their cards are quiet are probably living in a cooler/less humid environment.
I ran FurMark and indeed the card does get loud. Luckily it hardly ever gets that intense in gaming situations. I also found that having a fan...
We all have different room temperatures that may play a role in how fast the fan ramps up. At what fan % do you perceive as loud? We may all have different conditions on what loud is and what is not. I can hear the fan once it gets above 70% but it isn't loud to me. It hasn't gone above 76% fan...
As in the pipes from the pump are at the top and the written "Corsair" is upside down. I just read some reports that it helps cool it 3 to 5 degrees due to air bubbles. Not sure how valid these are but can't hurt right :p. My i7 920 @ 3.67 vcore 1.18 idles at around 30 degrees C and 55 degrees C...
I received my EVGA 480GTX from TigerDirect today (ordered last Wednesday night) without any problems. Bing cashback was almost instant. Happy customer here.
My EVGA 480GTX from Tiger Direct arrived today. Total price ended up being ~$445 after bing cashback (-$65) and TigerDirect billmelater promo (-$20) :D.
Yeah, Charlie did get a lot right with his Fermi "reports". It's just his unprofessional bias and poor writing style that turns me off. I guess he writes how he writes to get hits, and it works for him and his site.
I'm using G.SKILL PI Series (6 x 2GB) 1600 F3-12800CL7T2-12GBPI from newegg here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231331&cm_re=g.skill_ddr3_pi-_-20-231-331-_-Product
No problems with these so far.
Hmmm interesting. I don't have my computer set to sleep but I might try it tonight and see if I get the same symptoms.
edit:/ is that second symptom after you get the sleep problem? If not, I never had that problem before from a system shut down. Can you replicate the problem with only 3 sticks...
Lifetime warranty is nice but not essential for me. If the price is around the same as the competitors obviously I'd choose the one with lifetime warranty. I do tend to buy from EVGA just because my good experience with their service. Plus I do like the optional extras like Advanced RMA, being...
I also have this soundcard. It's connected to a Denon 4308CI receiver and doesn't have any of the handshake issues that were initially reported with this card and Denon receivers.
Just to correct Sycraft, you can use bit-matched play of your music in ANY of the three modes (not just audio...
Still cheaper than if I got it from newegg or evga directly since I would get taxed from those retailers (even before bing cashback). And you should be able to see when your card is estimated to arrive using the UPS tracking, mine arrives Tuesday.
EVGA 480GTX from Tiger Direct $529.99 and Free UPS ground shipping - $65.19 bing cashback = Total $464.80. :D Ordered late Wednesday evening arriving next week.
Because it's annoying that by the time you load in, other people already in the game have already taken all the vehicles and sometimes the first two objectives in rush mode have already been taken.
Guess I should update this thread and say I ended up with this motherboard and I'm quiet happy with it. Running with an i7 920 @ 3.6Ghz at vCore 1.18 (bios) and HT off. I can keep it stable with HT on but it's a little too hot for my liking, right now it's 60degrees C at load with prime.
If it's not an ATi problem then why does my nVidia card load up much faster than an ATI card with DX10? I'm still waiting for folks with a 4xx series to confirm whether it's the same in DX11.
