I think you're mostly right. I'm someone who still has a PS3 and a 1080p TV. I don't play games just to see the latest and greatest visuals. In fact, I don't play a lot of games. Most recently, I bought Civ V for $12...
BUT... I could see some kind of MMO idea adding strain to current systems...
Off topic - what does "RI/FI" stand for? :-)
Anyway, I like Windows 8, and the vast majority of my usage is on my work laptop (no touch) and my home desktop (no touch). But on both...
Installed Pokki
Set media files and documents to open in Desktop apps
Rarely visit the start screen...
I think that it's valid to believe that Ballmer because I feel like there are so many "almost" amazing things out of Microsoft. And somewhere, someone has to be saying "Hey, but..." and it isn't being heard by the ultimate decision makers. "Nope, we're not going to put any time testing Windows 8...
*gasp* I cannot imagine anyone saying "Windows is crap! M$!!! Blue screens! Windows Phone is bad and full of viruses!!" because of all the crappy PCs and old versions...
Ooo that reminds me, now that Microsoft lost money on the Surface, will "M$" become a thing of the past?!
What I would really hope Microsoft would have figured out was that the irritation (at least for me) was not so much the Start Screen but rather the fact that opening anything from the Desktop would often take you to a Metro app... bad but not the worst part. Then... you CLOSE the Metro app and...
"Best" depends on budget. The G2, myTouch, Vibrant and HD7 are all good for internet and texting. The G2 might have an edge because of the hardware keyboard (though different people have different preferences and abilities in that respect.) The first three also have Swype which some people like...
Other than some previews, hands-on and YouTube user reviews, I have a hard time finding reviews. It seems Dell doesn't understand that they need to sent handsets out to get them reviewed... and get them in stores for people to hold in their hands!
Do any of you have this phone? Can you tell...
Hey, I'm still using old Logitech 4.1 speakers that NEVER seem to work right with the software. A lot of programs and games somehow only send sound to the front two speakers even though Windows can send a sound to each speaker individually. I've tried discrete sound cards and onboard sound with...
T-Mobile has good rates in general. I pay $30 for 500 minutes, $10 for unlimited text (I sent/received 3000 last month) and if I get "unlimited" data it's just $20... and I am near WiFi much of the time and don't care about tethering. If I'm out of range of WiFi I don't want a laptop, I want to...
Yes it's a social network but the "competing" part is crap, if you ask me. It's a specialized web site for teachers. It might even improve our education system. If Business wins over Education... we all lose.
Advertising revenue on blogs and web sites is kind of like being given coupons or cash for going to a focus group or filling out a survey. Of course, there are absolutely sites that provide enough content and draw to make livings from it, and odds are, they report the taxable income. But as was...
WHS file shares (folder to folder transfers) are very fast for me over Gigabit, but backup/restore is noticeably slower.
Anyway, as far as need goes, it's the non-technical users that get viruses that hose their OS, accidentally delete important files, etc. They really should have quiet...
Of course it's flawed - it's based on quizzes, it disregards personal (sexual) preferences, and it could be that a lot of the pictures were taken by friends. Maybe single people with friends that have iPhones have more sex partners.
But there may be some kind of personality type stereotype...
Looking at your computer from a user/non-technical perspective...
You plug in the network cord to your computer (it's one of those wires, that looks like it fits there...) and then you turn on the computer. And you don't have network... so the "NIC is damaged/missing."
So to translate back...
I was given a little kit as a kid which had a clock and two wires, and you'd stick it in a potato and voila... the clock was powered for weeks. This is news... ?
Now if only AMD drivers would install consistently for me on Windows 7 x64... I'm using 10.4 and 10.6 fails to install. When I first built this system, it took a lot of jumping through hoops to get Catalyst 10.1 to install... I really don't want to go through this every time there is a release...
I have T-Mobile and I'm not sure what this whole "3G Coverage" war is about. What is 3G?! I get GPRS and if I'm lucky GSM. Once or twice, I got EDGE, but I don't know what that's all about...
Anyway, nice sign, nice deadpan.
Maybe I need to inject my posts with more obvious, blatant, laugh inducing, jolly, goofy sarcasm!
Yes, I was half serious about using something like the iPad... paper is ok to page through but you have to print out a new copy every time you add a movie (twice a week!) and you can't search, sort...
I thought of a use for the iPad. I built a movie database of ~300 movies, and it would be handy to have an iPad that guests could just browse through without having a bulky laptop to worry about.
I'm sure there are enough mainstream users with the same specific need... right?
In May 2007, I got Verizon Business FIOS (I have a web server at home, and DSL / Consumer FIOS blocks port 80 incoming) at my apartment. I wasn't impressed and canceled within the first 30 days. But I kept getting bills, a $250 ETF AND a charge for the equipment. All told, they billed me over...
Oh yeah... Vista also cornered the market on making navigating your Control Panel and Networking Settings into a nightmare! Windows 7 cleaned this up some, but I still can't understand why almost every click opens a new window for some of these settings.
My uninformed, non tech-savvy hatred of Vista came from having to go for long walks in the park when browsing folders on my computer (let alone on the network). I agree, however, with the comment that SP1 solved a lot of that hassle. I think Windows 7 is full of "nice touches" but I think the...
So far it doesn't seem to support Windows 7 - hopefully someone will find a workaround. I'd like to try to use it to stream netflix to a device connected to the TV (i.e. 360 or PS3)
How about iPhone... ? Great business/marketing success but "tech" failure? Oh wait... their definition of "tech" failure IS business/marketing failure. My bad...
I define Cherry Buzz Potatoes to be things that lack useful features that competitors have, but look pretty and sell like hot...
