I have an OEM Dell power supply that I'd like to replace with something stronger.
From what I can tell, the power supply has two 12V rails at 14A and 16A, which is fine. The problem is that the supply has a +12VSB at 1.67A, whereas all power supplies I can find online have +5VSBs.
Has...
I've tried this on two machines now, one running Flash Player 10 / Windows XP / Firefox 3, the other running Flash Player 9 / Windows Vista / Firefox 3.
When loading the [H] main page (www.hardocp.com), the Flash debugger throws:
Error: Error #1023: Stack overflow occurred.

I'd like to have Flex talk with a Java servlet.
Currently, my servlet can receive data from my Flex application via an HTTPService.
The servlet can send data back to Flex as a byte stream:
OutputStream out = response.getOutputStream();
byte[] returnVal = "some response message".getBytes()...
Hello all,
I'm working (for the first time) with Fortran code. Does anyone know of a free Fortran profiler?
I inherited this code from a professor and would like to see where its spending the majority of its time.
Thanks!
Greetings all!
I am messing around with image rollovers for a new splash screen for my webpage.
http://gannon-house.com/uploads/Photoshop/index_01.html
Rollover the "A" in "Gannon"
I'd like to have the "ABOUT" image put on top of the background (as opposed to replacing it). Any...
Work and graduate school applications have calmed down recently, giving me some time to play around in 3ds Max. I'd like to add some rust or dirt to the geometry in both of the following scenes (the current materials are just placeholders :)).
Here are my thoughts:
The rust/dirt...
Greetings!
I run Google Analytics for a few websites (just personal stuff, nothing serious). Does anyone know of a way to track direct links to an image, video, non-HTML file on the site? I'd like to track something like:
www.mysite.com/picture.jpg
Analytics requires the inclusion of...
Hello!
I am looking to run four monitors from my one machine, all requiring DVI.
Currently I have an 8800GT (PCI-e) in the box. I also have two Radeon 9250s (PCI) on hand, but could not get Windows to play nicely with mixed breeds (tried the ATI cards with Vista's default drivers, then...
Hello all! I have an interest in graphics (experience with OpenGL, DirectX, Cg), and as such am interested in playing around with nVidia's newest toy CUDA.
The machine on which I've installed CUDA's SDK, Toolkit, and video card drivers is a Windows Vista Ultimate (64-bit) machine running an...
In Photoshop, free transforming a non-vector layer will resize/re-rasterize the layer. I'd like to be able to shrink->blow up->shrink->blow up->... without losing quality in the layer.
In the past, I've kept an "original" layer with the visibility turned off, then scaled duplicate layers...
Greetings, folks! I have a compendium of questions for the forum. All comments are welcome and appreciated!
1) In C, why would I want to use fork() over threads (or vice versa)? Forking makes more sense before a call to exec(), but other than that what are the advantages/disadvantages...
Greetings!
Was poking through some IA-32 code today and (once again) stumbled across a NOP. What's the point of this? Is it just a forced wait thrown into the code to, say, clear out the pipeline?
Thanks!
Hello folks!
I recently built a quad-core machine (Q6600, 4x2gb XMS2, 8800GT 512) for some rendering fun with 3ds Max. My question is this:
Does the scanline renderer in Max support more than one core?
I ask because, when I use it, it only sends one of my cores up to 100% usage...
So I'm sitting here sniffing packets on m'box, and I noticed that AIM sends out "Keep Alives" every 30 seconds -- even when I'm not running the program.
Is there any reason for this, or is something fishy going on?
Edit: Also, there are "Ping" messages over the YMSG (Yahoo Messenger) protocol...
Greetings all!
I would like to export an animation in Max as a sequence of .obj files. (Let's say my animation is 30 frames long -- I would like to export each frame as a separate .obj file)
In the MaxScript reference files, I could not find a call to invoke the .obj exporter. However...
Shutting down Fedora Core 6 unmounts drives, kills processes, et cetera . . . and leaves the user with a screen saying that it is alright to turn off the computer.
Is there any way to get FC6 to shut down the computer (power and everything) automatically?
Greetings -- I come in search of information on inexpensive touch screens.
I'm a CS major stepping outside more normal scope to do work in the (gasp) hardware world. I need to purchase four inexpensive touch screen monitors. Specs:
Resolution must be at least 640x480
Size must be at least 8"...
Hello hello -- never used AWK before, but I hear it's a mighty fine search and replace tool.
Here's my issue: I would like to replace every line that contains "prevBoard[x][y][z]" with "MYINDEX3D(prevBoard, n, n2, x, y, z)", where x, y, and z represent variable text of max length 3.
I...
Trying to get this specific line in a (my first) Perl script to work:
$r = 'echo \"$x $y $z\n\" | ./prog psol.txt';
I have x, y, and z set to integer values. What I'm trying to do is feed the result of echo x y z \n into a scanf call in prog then set r to the output of prog...
I heard in passing today that switch statements are more efficient than, say, a list of if-elseif-elses. Edit: This was in reference to C.
Is this true? If so, why is this?
char* question = "Let's say I
wanted to declare a single string
on multiple lines";
Is there an escape character that will allow gcc to recognize that I'm doing this? I ask because I'm using some really long string literals (SQL queries) and am sick of having them run off the screen . . ...
Thinking about upgrading from a 9800Pro to 6800GT (grabbing a "new" RMA'd one from $180 from BFGTech). I also run two Radeon 9250s for my three-monitor setup on the same system. My question is this:
Will nForce and Cat drivers work together on the same system?
Thanks in advance :).
Background: I am currently running an AGP 9800Pro and two PCI 9250s. However, the 9800Pro is dying out ("VPU Recovery Error"s), so I'm thinking about throwing a new AGP card into the system.
Question: If I get a nVidia card, will the Nforce drivers play nicely with my Catalysts? Has...
Recently I began playing through Ocarina of Time again (to be followed by Majora's Mask). I'll be done collecting all the items (i.e. all heart pieces, all skulltulas) in the next few days - just wondering if anyone here has done any of the rumored "extra quests" in OoT.
I'm getting mixed...
Hey - I'm running a 9800Pro AGP with two 9250s [PCI]. Even with basic Direct X applications (plug-ins for Winamp, et cetera) the 9250s lag far more than I feel they should. Is this due to the bus limitations of PCI vs. AGP, or something else? Are newer PCI cards just optimized for 2d with 3d...
Quick question:
Is there any way I can directly connect to an opponent's IP address, i.e. fight someone (not through a LAN, not via modem) without accessing Battle.net?
Thanks in advance :).
I have two 40GB HDDs laying around and am wanting to put them in RAID 1 before throwing an operating system on them. Thing is, they're not the same hard drive type - just the same size. I know in RAID 0 this would hinder performance - is this also true for RAID 1? If so, would it be all that...
I have two SATA 160gb drives in RAID 0 using the onboard SATA RAID ability of my Gigabyte K8N Pro.
I would like to move these drives to a new motherboard, also with onboard SATA RAID capability. Is this possible? I know it would be possible if I'd used a RAID card (done it before), but I've...
I currently own these PSUs:
550W Antec TrueControl
400W PSU that came with my Antec case
Two weeks from now, I will have these parts in two computers:

5x200 Seagate HDDs
2x160 WD SATA HDDs
2x160 WD HDDs
with a Radeon 7200AIW and an older processor (either a P4 or an AXP)...
