The nVidia 6800GT. Get an eVga, XFT or BFG model with the 3 year warranty. (My HSI 9800Pro/256 died at 14 months. It came with a 12 month guarantee. Meanwhile my GF3 is still going strong.)
If you're going to overclock, then probably the BFG OC or the PNY. And if you can afford it, why not...
Unless there is a COD Configuration or Auto Configure utility (in the start -> run -> progrmas menu) you may need to re-install the game (after saving your game save data) to see if it will detect the new video card.
Which ones have the best warranty?
Even Canadian PNY only has a 3 year warranty after registration.
Me, I bought a eVga 6800GT because of the warranty and because BFG are hard to find. XFT now has a lifetime warranty, also.
Forget refurbs and buy an eVga or BFG with the lifetime warranties. As far as 6800GT vs Ultra scores, there's very little difference, 1 to 5 fps, unless you're gaming at the highest resolutions. http://www.sharkyextreme.com/hardware/videocards/article.php/3211_3406871__3...
That's because PC3200/DDR400 was faster than DDR2. Now that DDR2 is at PC6400/DDR800 speeds AMD sees a reason to jump in - you can actually see a performance gain. Anyone who bought into DDR2/533 or /666 is now an orphan.
How much are you spending for the cpu? That's as much as you should spend on the vid card.

Basically a $200 PCI-E will double the old 9800Pro scores.
why not just google?
btw, 80% of the free questions are bogus, chances are they will not be on the test. There's plenty of sites that will email you daily questions, like examcram, etc.
WXP has faster web browsing. I use FF 1.0 on both machines and WXP is snappier. Even tweaking Fire Fox in W2KP doesn't help.
WXP has Clear Type which is a pain in the butt. Yes, it makes the fonts much better looking but it also smears it and makes it look fuzzy. W2KP's anti-aliasing of fonts...
Oh I know about the install process, all of it. I couldn't get my game installed, for whatever reason. The Steam online status always showed that the servers were up, the firewall showed me all the ports that were opening. I even disabled the firewall and tried two different OSes. It just...
You could also map it directly to a directory in WXP. http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/sag_diskconcepts_14.mspx
If you're running an nVidia nForce chipset, it makes more sense to try to run it sync. You'll try to run it at 250fsb (to get to 1000MHz) but chances are the AMD won't run at that speed unless you use a lower multiplier.
Overclocking is good if you only use two sticks, but if you decide to...
If you have .NET installed there will be an icon for it in the control panel.
If you don't have it installed you can download it from MS. Don't forget to download the SP with it.
If you do install the ATI drivers, make sure that you do not install the control panel. Either use the old...
Far Cry because
1] It doesn't use Steam
2] It can be installed in under 5 hours
3] When you double click the icon it doesn't take 2 - 5 minutes for the game to start.
4] It's a lot longer game.
5] It doesn't give you vertigo and spasms.
6] It's easier to back up.
Yeah, after 5 hours...
Since you're going to water cool, a 478 Prescott 3.2 E0 stepping.
Otherwise a DFI LanParty 875-T mobo which can take the 775 Prescotts but still use AGP and PC3200.

One of the problems with the Neo Platinum is that you cannot occupy all four slots with double sided RAM. If you do it throttles down to DDR333.
If the sticks are all single sided you shouldn't have a problem.
This isn't usually a problem as most people usually only insert two sticks...
The 875 is a refurb and doesn't support Prescotts.
Had this been for you I would have suggested a mobo that uses the i865 or i875 but could run the 775 Prescotts.
The lack of a NIC is no biggie seeing as you can pick them up for $5.
Where did you read that an i865 will spank an i875...
If you get the Prescott, and if your mobo can take it, then the TermalTake Xp-120 is the hs to get. If it cannot accept the XP-120 then the XP-90 is the one to get.
Seeing as how there is little price difference between an OEM and a Retail, it makes more sense to pick the Retail version when possible.
As for heatsinks, I would suggest the ThermalTake XP-90 or if you have enough room and if it can fit, then the XP-120.
Some say the Prescott feels...
Throw in 2 NICs, install Linux, and make a firewall appliance out of it. You connect your cable modem to one end and your bridge / router or computer on the other end. Besides using it as a firewall you can set it up as an email scanner for anti-virus scanning. Change all the fans to low noise...
PCI-E has been with us for about 6 months. It'll probably be another 6 months before PCI-E comes into its own and goes mainstream. Intel may have 'engineered' PCI-E but very few are buying into the technology because the T socket (775) isn't any faster than 478s, very few people are buying...
Increasing mem to 1G should give you a smoother running game. If you go from sigle channel to dual channel it should give you about 20% - 50% greater mem throughput. Will it be noticeable? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes and no. I would put another 512MB of mem in your present PC and use that for...
Does it happen if you trun off all sound hardware acceleration and EAX? Does it work if you turn down the sound quality in DX? Does it happen if the soundcard is NOT sharing an IRQ with the SATA controller?
BestBuy may be walking down the same road as "Crazy Eddie's" and "The Wiz".
I mostly go to Fry's. Fry's has 2x the number of DVDs, 10x the number of PC games.
Fry's is crushing BB in my area. They have 5x the inventory at lower prices.
One thing I've noticed is that no one is buying...
I like $2 white zinc oxide thermal grease. I've read of many people who have ripped out cpus when they removed their heatsinks using AS5 and Ceramique. I can't wait until someone tries twisiting a hot heatsink off a 775 cpu.
3000/15 = 200 fsb
3400/15 = 226 fsb
226 x 2 = DDR 452, 452 x 8 = PC3616
Therefore you will need DDR466/PC3700 minium to run the mem at 1:1. You might as well get DDR500/PC4000 mem so that you can try a fsb of 250, giving 15 x 250 = 3750MHz or a 3.75G processor. HSF: Thermaltake XP-90.
