Weird 550 BE Unlock Result-Help Appreciated

UPDATE: I guess I'm gonna have to call it a fail. I get the exact same sort of graphical anomalies on Knoppix with the 4 cores enabled, regardless of clockspeed and voltages. I'll just have to settle for a $100 dual core doing 3.9 GHz on stock cooling--couldn't win the cores, but it's not a...

    socket 939??

I just got a BE 550, MA770T, and 4 gb of ram for less than $250. It's totally not worth fighting to keep the 939 system alive. If you want to be really cheap about it, OC the hell out of your CPU-you might find it has decent headroom left but you aren't going to make a big dent without...

Can you use a socket 939 cooler on a am2/am3 motherboard?

I've seen the clips break off too, but generally it was because the HS was not actually on the heatspreader but was hung up on the side of the plastic bracket and a little cockeyed. If it takes too much pressure to flip the clip, you're doing it wrong.

    Fan direction oc question

I would tend to agree with Bill that you could get away with mounting the rad at the back and having cool air come over it from outside and go right out the top. Push/pull shouldn't matter much if you have a decent fan and should matter even less if you're talking about outside air coming over...

Weird 550 BE Unlock Result-Help Appreciated

So nobody else has seen anything like this? I actually kind of like that, because nobody else probably tried keeping the same installation of Windows while swapping motherboards and CPU brands, so maybe the reinstall will fix it. It's just so weird seeing all the rendering anomalies and no...

Weird 550 BE Unlock Result-Help Appreciated

I got my 550 BE and MA770T-UD3P the other day and went to work on it last night. It came with Bios F4, and I later flashed to F3 but that didn't change the results. Here's the weird thing- With no unlock, everything is just fine-decent OC, nothing unusual. When I unlock, POST page shows the...

Oerclocking ATI Mobility HD 4650, help needed.

There may be 3rd party drivers that enable the full CCC options. Omega drivers used to be that way iirc, and there are still drivers like that for nV, but I'm not sure about more recent ATI drivers. If you find some, let me know, b/c my new lappy is begging for it with the 885g chipset...

    Good Headphones ?

I like my Equation RP-21's. Be aware that many/most good headphones can't be driven well by onboard sound because there's not enough power on the output. If you pick up a set and you don't have enough volume you'll need at least a seperate sound card and an amp is also an option. head-fi.org

Drag Race The Police For $25

Nice to see police thinking outside the box and taking a risk. It's a can't miss idea for good image and PR with young males which is who law enforcement really needs to get along with. I do worry about the 18 year old kid who can prove that his car is faster than any cop car then thinking...

    Best $3 I've ever spent

Just different strokes I guess. Yeah, the fans will wear out sooner, but if they wear out before the video cards are outdated I'll be mad either way. The fan on my Geforce3 still works.... As for the noise, I play with headphones on. If a different person lets their things run hot because it...

When did nVidia enable 2nd monitor support in SLI mode?

Ahh, crap. The answer to my question is that the option is not available in XP. I didn't have SLI at the time and didn't pay attention to this nugget. Does anybody know if the hack around allowing 2 monitors via a third card works with a non-nvidia 3rd card? EDIT 2- OK, I now know that...

When did nVidia enable 2nd monitor support in SLI mode?

I'm wondering about this because last night I tried for about an hour to get my sli'd 9600gt's to work on my second monitor and could only get one screen at a time working but not both. My goal is to get one monitor for web browsing while the other is benefitting from the SLI for gaming...

    Best $3 I've ever spent

It could be one of those TIM pads that are too thick and conduct like garbage to the point that they actually keep some heat in as opposed to conduct it to the HSF. We've all seen enough of those around. Think about the advice you give somebody about TIM application "it should be so thin that...

    Connection-Specific DNS suffix that I didn't assign?

Yesterday, after doing nothing different than normal I tried to get on the internet and none of my machines would connect to the internet, but all had internal connectivity. When trying to get on the web, Chrome had a "Resolving Hosts" message in the lower left and then would direct me to the...

Leaving PCs On Overnight Costs $2.8B Annually

That attitude is not factually supported nor accurate. If you think that using fossil fuels as much as we want to is not going to cause problems and that it's for 'taxation and control of economies' you're not paying attention. Take global warming/greenhouse gasses and all that out of the...

Leaving PCs On Overnight Costs $2.8B Annually

Nope to you. You've left home, and some power company you've directly or indirectly paid either generates or buys nuclear power. You might be close to zero, but you're not True Zero:p. Don't worry though, the more normal power you use, the more you shrik your relative uranium footprint and...

Leaving PCs On Overnight Costs $2.8B Annually

Seems like the two myths about turning your rig off shortening hardware life and the one about using more energy both come from the fact that they're somewhat true when talking about cars. In a car, the oil leeches downward in the motor when not running and leaves parts less lubricated than...

Leaving PCs On Overnight Costs $2.8B Annually

Doubtful. I'm sure at some point you consumed energy generated from a nuclear plant using a uranium product in the plant. :D IT at my company actually requires that machines be left on overnight for AV and OS pushes, etc. Instead of requiring it on a day-to-day basis for the several occasions...

    WTB/WTTF- SLI Bridge

I need an SLI bridge. I got my mobo used and didn't get the bridge for it. The bridge I need is the standard 2-card SLI bridge. I have a Crossfire bridge I would trade for it, or I would buy one. Looking to either swap or buy for no more than $8 shipped. My heat is under justaguy and...

Wanted: FOUND SLI Bridge. Have: CRT monitors (lol), steel cases with various degrees of 'practice' mods, various cables, some mice/kb, SD ram in low sizes (a few 32's, maybe 64's), optical drives-CD's, I think at least 1-2 CD-R's. I don't check PM here all that often, so not getting a...

Effectively protected underground cable the UberGhetto Way?

In case there are people really wondering how this turns out (doubtful, but just in case....) It just so happens that my wife scheduled some social stuff over the weekend that took me out of my rural isolationist homestead and to the big city (like 30K+ people!). There was not only a Lowe's...

Effectively protected underground cable the UberGhetto Way?

I REALLY don't want to get into a pi$$ing match here. You may very well know more than I do and I readily admit it. That being said.... The cheapest I could find was $1.75 for 10' Sch 40 and that was at Lowe's which there are none within 50 miles of my house so add $15 or so in gas. I need...

Effectively protected underground cable the UberGhetto Way?

Couple things: Why would conduit be any less vulnerable to moisture than a hose? They're pretty waterproof last time I checked, especially if you were to use some measure to seal any connecting joint. I don't need to bury it very deep and the only traffic over it would be foot...

To play WoW at 1920x1200 maxed settings.

Shadows kill my laptop but otherwise I get 25-30 FPS 1400x900 all sliders but shadows maxed on that with a GeForce Go 7600 and 1.6 GHz Mobile A64. My desktop is a 3.0 GHz Opteron single core paired with a 9600GT. I haven't been to Shatt since I started playing WoW on Blizz servers but in Org...

Effectively protected underground cable the UberGhetto Way?

When you lay the cable, you run string so that you can pull additional cables through. You could also attach the end of the new cable to one end of the old cable and pull it through that way too.

    WoW 3.02 on a 8800 GTS

Anybody know if WoW is using multiple CPU's? I get frames in the 30's with every conceivable eye candy either in game or forced in drivers and have a pretty dated Opteron 144 @ 3.0 with a 9600GT and 1.5 GB of ram. Some slowdowns, but I'm pretty low level and haven't gotten to some of the...

Sharing a Client PC's wireless connection?

Update-- I couldn't get this to work. I'm sure it was because of something that I don't know or something being misconfigured.... I did however come up with a solution that will definitely fix the problem. I'm going to end up running about 100' of Cat5e out to the garage in conduit. Since...

Sharing a Client PC's wireless connection?

What would happen if I leave the wireless client pc and the router in the same subnet but I give the router .254 and static route .1 to the client and also set the router's DHCP pool to be say .245-.253? The way that I'm thinking, the router and the ICS machine would both be able to assign...

Sharing a Client PC's wireless connection?

Yeah, I guess that should work, shouldn't it? If the two are on different subnets, they can both be DHCP for that subnet. I was thinking that this way might also work: http://www.techsupportforum.com/networking-forum/modems-cable-dsl-satellite/225487-ics-wireless-router.html ...but that...

Sharing a Client PC's wireless connection?

My wireless has a clean shot and a high-gain aftermarket antenna, so the signal is very good even through the aluminum garage door and the minivan. I don't think I can do powerline (although it's a great idea in situations like this) because my garage has seperate electrical service from the...

Tesla Motors Replacing CEO, Plans Layoffs

Sharing a Client PC's wireless connection?

My network right now is essentially DSL modem->Buffalo WHR->360, 2 PCS AND ->Wireless PC in the garage. What I want to do is be able to get to the internet on more than one PC in the garage, without installing wireless adaptors in any/all PC's in the garage. Reason being is that I've started...

    Benefit of Shader UNDERclocking?

I don't know if this is normal or not, but my final clocks were 800/1750/1125(2250) on my 9600GT. It's a good thing that I unlinked the shaders too-they would definitely have held back the GPU overclock. The GPU is limited @800 by the software or maybe bios. RivaTuner allows higher adjustments...
