Most of the FF series was less than stunning to me (and I have a hard time understanding what drives the FFVII obsession beyond nostalgia), but I think FFXII really knocked it out of the park this time, so it gets my vote.
My first game was probably but not definitely sure, Galaga in an arcade, when I was about 4-5. Either that or Super Mario World on SNES (if I played Galaga later than I recall). I've been hooked ever since ;)
How many of you read the (short) article? Whatever it is, I think Reuters did not communicate clearly in the title. The objective here was made quite obvious:
"Do you think it's fine that a CD plays in all CD players but that an iTunes song only plays in an iPod? I don't. Something has to...
Hah. One time my whole Font folder became corrupted and no text existed..., causing Windows to behave very very strangely. Random things just didn't show up, and things didn't work properly. I think I ended up booting to disk and copying over a fonts folder...
Just copy the Fonts from some...
Oy. This isn't 'selfish' by any means. The idea is fair and discourages pure leeching. I used this for a few days before I was tired of the bloated Azureus client it was based off of and switched back to uTorrent. I don't know how big of an effect it had though, I think my speeds were fairly...
For some people, spending a few thousand on a computer is not a huge deal. (I'm not one of them ;_; )
For most people, top end cards probably aren't worth it, as the performance increase is typically marginal. Though with the 8xxx series, the midrange cards are still yet to come >.<
Without a unified physics API, I don't really think the industry is really going to build up any significant market in physics. Having separate incompatible solutions isn't exactly encouraging for software developers. Having a single MS-lead standard will certainly help, and make it far more...
The reason why specialized co-processors go the way of the dinosaur is pretty apparent: They're too specialized. Any sort of highly specialized co-processor will be effectively wasted except when doing its particular task. If the demand for that sort of processing is sufficient, then over time...
I can see a tax applying when you convert in game material to real money, since its really 'income'. But in game transactions cannot be taxed, as they have no real value. In all games so far, this is actually against the terms of service also.
If a virtual economy gains enough size and...
The top end flagship products will always come with a premium for that kind of performance, and it takes a lot of effort to squeeze out those last drops.
But in spite of the fact that the high end cards are so expensive at retail, the vast majority of the profits come from much cheaper...
That will depend mostly on demand. Nintendo plans to ship more than 4 million by year end. I guess the question is 'Will that be enough?'
I have a feeling that they're going to be coming off the shelves nearly as fast as they can stock them, but who knows.
Well, I checked out all 3 of my local Gamestop/EBgames.
(They all 'open' at 7 today, so says their ad...)
#1 in the Mall had 40 people outside it by 5 AM. Bah.
#2 had ~20, manager comes out and say they don't have any PS3s or Wii's at all.
#3 had ~25, they had 2 Wiis, no PS3s.
This is the...
Epic... how do you define that really?
Just a few that I've played that should be on the list:
Homeworld: Cataclysm - Got a lot of criticism for a variety of reasons, but the single-player campaign really gave you a feeling of suspense and drama. It was a galaxy-spanning epic struggle of...
Remember in spite of declining sales, Nintendo has still been keeping up a decent profit, even in its console division, so it hasn't been in any danger of fading away. I think that part of the problem with the GC is that it didn't have as strong a lineup of so-called 'killer apps', even from...
Nintendo has long had a history of trying to get people into the game, and let them interact with at a higher level than just tapping buttons on a controller. Sure, not all of them have been successful, but they've kept on trying because really, a controller is not a very immersive or intuitive...
Well, there are tradeoffs in the sound quality between closed and open. Closed aren't explicitly better.
That said, don't expect miracles from closed headphones, they aren't going to mute out the world. A fire alarm you'll almost certainly hear, and the knocking on the door... that depends on...
Well, I think if you want to make a real notable step up from 'multimedia' speakers, you could always opt for studio monitors, or HT bookshelf speakers. I don't think there's a whole lot more you can get from teensy computer speakers.
I hope that all these people that label a game as 'kiddy' or 'for kids' have given all these games a serious try. In my dorm room, we have PCs, an XBox, and a GC and it turns out that we spend by far the most time gaming on the GC.
Do remember that mp3s (and pretty much all music) are only stereo. If you play it normally, it should only come out of the two front speakers unless you're upmixing it in software or drivers.
If that was the case, I'm sure the kxproject would have fixed it. No, IIRC the sampling issue is a direct flaw of the DSP. You can't use any DSP effects on the EMU unless you're using the 44.1/48khz mode. I'm fairly sure that even though the EMU uses the same DSP, the card architecture (i.e. how...
What do you want him to do? Say you're right when you're not? If you actually looked at any other column than the loudness, you'd notice that the lower impedance phones also require considerably more power. (Logarithms aren't going to save you here either)
Wasn't this the whole point of the...
While I do agree that upgrading your speakers is probably a good idea, don't underestimate the effect that upgrading from a crappy sound card can have, even on a set of multimedia speakers. The difference between the Audigy 2 ZS and the EMU 0404 is clearly audible on my Altec Lansing ATP3s.
Foobar can use ANY keys you want as global hotkeys, not only multimedia keys, but any other keys that you want, and you can map any functionality in foobar to those hotkeys.
I have my multimedia keys mapped, but I also have all my commonly used functions mapped to the keyboard. If you're...
To be honest, I think a multi-soundcard setup is an added unnecessary hassle. The M-Audio Revolution is probably a good, balanced solution for your needs.
As to why Creative's more expensive sound card can sound worse than the AV-710? Good question, why don't you ask Creative. While the...
