Just to add my $.02, if you want to run Cat5e or Cat6 through your air return, you need to buy "Plenum" cable rather than "Riser". Plenum is rated for running through central air ducts, as it gives off no toxic fumes when it melts/burns. It is, however, about 3x as expensive.
