apple gave this person (in cali) all the apple certs /training for reatil and service (the service one is the one that matters)
and i'm told the test is a bitch
Teenagers see right through that stuff, they have to put up with it at school, and know all the ways to hide stuff (alt tab, etc) quickly, and if the parents aren't computer savy, they will have no clue either. But I will agree, trust your kids, educate them on whats good/bad, even if it's you...
I know people that worked as genuises, flew to cali, the works. They hated working for the apple store, and quit very shortly after joining. But they still got to keep all the certs ;)
From what she tells me all they do anymore is iPod work, with the occasional hardware error, and a few PEBKAC...
A seccond vote for aol (most updated, easiest to control)
if they are already on highspeed use something like smoothwall w/dans guardian (that might be tough to turn off though, unless you set it in non-transparent mode, and force the daughter (login account, etc) to go though it, and have a...
Mind of a windows user who desperately wants aperture
Copy of aperture: $500
windows machine: free
total: $500 assuming there would ever be a win version, at the same price
"no windows version, looks like it's time to buy a mac"
mac to run aperture: $3k (aprox for something serious)...
There are a few raw workflow apps for windows
Phase one's Capture one (both platform, my choice)
Bibble (both platform)
Adobe camera raw (photoshop plugin)
Adobe Lightroom (which had been mentioned)
Adobe Lightroom/Bibble are the most "workflow oriented" (multi versions of single shot...
You cannot "build" an apple computer. You could hack osx on to normal x86 hardware (no support or anything, and borderline illegal.)
However apple hardware uses standard PC parts (ram, hdd, vid cards) so you can upgrade them yourself
I'm looking at either an 800k sync pipe or somewhere between 8-12mb sync (long range wireless link) so it's a real toss up what I will have.
In theory i'd like to just whitelist ports 80, 445, and 27015. It sounds easy, but from the looks of it it isn't
I'm looking for some form of nix' distro (like monowall/clarkconnect) that can do port/service filtering. I was using a wrt54g with DDWRT firmware, but I'm currently pushing too much traffic through it (soon will be 100-150 users.) I need to filter out aim and such, but still need to be able to...
I have a machine running on a Gigabyte 7dpxdw with one 512mb stick of crucial ECC. So I decided I need an upgrade (server at a lan comming up) so I ordered another stick from newegg of "the same stuff," when I ordered there were 2 options, one in stock, one not, same price range, so I ordered...
hope this doesn't break rules, if so sorry.
download aircrack (homepage down) http://www2.packetstormsecurity.org/cgi-bin/search/search.cgi?searchvalue=aircrack&type=archives&%5Bsearch%5D.x=0&%5Bsearch%5D.y=0 and in a subfolder (win32) there will be a program called wzcook, run that and it...
how do you know about fites?
I personally think it's easy. for something from source
"./configure
(configs, if errors investigate, install missing packages, google is your friend)
make
make install"
makes the ap, installs it where it needs to go.
or just download your fav distros...
apt-get is your friend. (or yum, installpkg, emerge)
seriously, most distros have something that makes it easier, and once you know what you're doing its easier than windows
(/ nix fan boyism)
yeah, goto prefernces > driver, in the middle of the windows there is a pulldown, hit "USB device with prisim 2 chipset" and hit add, works for me on a linksys usb stick
I got an install error, closed, still on the machine though, and "about this mac" says i'm running 10.4.4
odd
i'm on:
12" 1.5 pbook
512mb ram
upgrading from 10.4.3
10mb nef? what are you shooting with? (only thing I know with that big of a compNEF is d200 or d2x)
Very cool server indeed, hope to have something like that someday
that could be FAT (I think it has a 2gb limit on files)
if you format the drive as HFS+ (apple FS) then you should be fine, I have a few 10gig+ files on my external drive
Running powerbook with airport. And same router with 128bit wep, the only thing i've noticed is you need to enter in one of the 4 keys, not just the passphrase (like you can do in windows)
my isp "caps" me at 12gig down/notsure up
my reccord was 80gig down 50up, but then my ISP notified me of the above caps, do'h
edit: tell them you are a linux nerd and do lots of ISO's if they ask ;)
The only way you will be able to sniff with windows is if you are on the same hub as the ap. as windows doesn't allow you to passivly sniff with wireless (why netstumbler can get detected, it's active)
you would probly have to encode it to wmv first (and on that note it is overkill)
check out VLC, it might be able to do what you want easier

most of the time when I'm on public wifi i'm on aim and surfing forums, nothing secrect or anything. I'm more worried about people getting physical access to my box. And I don't worry that much about viri/hacks, as i'm on osx (I know i'm not totally imune)
