Great Thread!
I am also debating the ASRock Z77 Extreme4-M vs the Gigabyte Z77MX-D3H...
And I think you just talked me into this combo.
Patrick AKA Pierre
I did find this rather recent post (Sept 2010) on another Forum:
I have a new laptop with Windows7. I was using a few WD Passport drives for transferring files back and forth, and they were working fine. I then moved all the files off one of the drives and decided to format it with the Win7...
I am doing fine with the Image creation using Win7 using one of the ESATA HD Docks - Backup Storage Inexpensive, Expandable, Portable, and Flexible!
I am not going to that size however...
The USB drive had GPT set on it, right?
Part of the issue with such huge drives in the Home...
If you are going Win7 on the box you can always image the drive and create the restore CD from the Win7 Backup and Restore menu...
If the intent is to create a BU for 'just in case' the image is good to go, and built into the OS.
If you like to *whack* and reinstall for 'ultimate drive...
Drive locked? If they were part of an array the partition would be 'foreign' to your system, and you would need the whole set of drives on the right controller with the right driver installed to see the 'storage partition' - Know what I mean?
You try whacking them with DBAN? That should...
What do you have to lose???
I say give it a shot - You WILL learn something from it!!! There is an outside chance a dead short in the existing failed drive will brick your PCB transplant.... but I would say it should be a rare situation.
Go For It, and then tell us what you learned!!! :)
Just an FYI for this thread...
RichCopy is GUI based, and Robocopy comes in a GUI based form now.
I have RichCopy scheduled to copy server data to a RAID1 workstation that uses Mozy Online Backup to pull the data off site.
Easy batch file, set it up as a scheduled task, and it runs like...
Check out RoboCopy - You can get it as command line only , or with a GUI interface on it.
While searching for Robocopy for download, I also found RichCopy which is reportedly a MultiThreaded Robocopy...
I have used RoboCopy extensively over the years for all sorts of copy needs - copy jobs...
If the array is not vital, or in production, then try recreating the issue with a smaller array - 3 drives would work.
If you do get the issue once again with the original set of drives, pickup 3 replacement drives, and see if you can reproduce the issue with the replacement drives.
You...
I am suffering the same thing - on a new Gigabyte GA-MA78GPM-DS2H (fried the bios on the GA-MA78GM-S2H, but Gigabyte may RMA it!!! Cool) and it says 64 bit on boot, CPU-Z reports:
Channels# Dual
DC Mode Unganged (this changes to 128Bit when Ganged)
NB Freq 1807.8
This is when DRAM Freq...
ferrisnox - Good to hear the flash worked for you! I just bricked my GA-MA78GM-S2H board last night!!! @BIOS fired off a bunch of errors, and the system now BEEPS really cool on power up, but no boot... haven't had that happen in 8 or 9 years! I have a good idea of what Gigabyte Tech Supp...
With 4Gb of ram yer looking at more like $300... just bought this setup...
Closer to $200 with 2Gb of ram, but still over $200...
HTH
Edit - I am a yutz - I picked up the 5400 BE, not a 5000... still over $200 with 4Gb of ram... but much closer to .$200. My Bad...
Wonder if you will be able to play copy protected media - DVD's, Audio CD's that are copy protected.
Read the other day that these features will only be available in the 64bit... then again, as I recollect, it may be the HD versions of these types of media with the copy protection on them...
SOLVED
Thanks for the effort.... Bottom line is...
the 1394 front panel header WILL NOT produce sound through the front speaker jacks ... no matter what you do.
HOWEVER - When you use the AUDIO connector it works perfectly!
{sheepish grin}
Double check those header blocks...
Hey to All,
Merry Christmass, and a Happy New Year!
Did some searching - Couldn't find any info on how to connect the front audio output on the X-Qpack and the Biostar TForce6100 mobo. Antec's site is worthless, says check the Mobo maker's manual.
X-Qpack front audio header is keyed...
Just finished mine... for my daughter for Christmass. She won't get to pick it up till Tuesday though...
Rock Solid so far. Winnie 3000, no OC (probably won't)

X2 3800 in a Shuttle SN25P.
Running at 2.5Ghz for a while now. Pretty stable once I *FOLLOWED* the SN25 Setup Guide.
It's picky bout it's drivers in my experience....
HTH
There have been a couple of attempts at this. I am not aware of a successful Win XP Pro 64 RAID installation. Win XP Pro has been concured I believe. The folks at sfftech.com would be able to guide you better on this...
If you search for a bit, you will find more info there...
Don't...
Well, It's Gonna Hurt...
There goes the chances of having children... I hear DFI got the other one...
But it would be worth it for YOU, I guess...
Personally, I could not take being a Unich... I like Women! Okay, my wife anyway... (LOL)
Good Luck...
I hate Beta Testing products...
You should Too!
Return it to NewEgg while you still can. It's gone beyond your responsibility. You are a better man than I... The return would be on the way by now for me... (grin)
YOU have done it all, now call and request a new one.
You will...
Don't wanna hijack this thread, so I'll be brief:
snackcakeofd00m - No, they didn't charge me.. but putting the proc in a PC would mean endless trouble with that pc. Pay a fair price, or be a thief. You choose just like I do... and had I chosen to use the CPU I didn't pay for, the system...
ZZF is #2 for me... expecially since I prefer the UPS shipping! (grin)
They have always been great, but as mentioned before the pricing seems to have crept up lately... they are not as competetive as before. More business is going to NE these days from my hands...
I usually check, and...
Yah, but it sure looks *GOOD* in that Q-Pack... but it's toooo tight for my taste.
S'okay cause I was looking for a reason to Get the ModStream... but now I am looking for the Q-Pack PSU replacement.
I see some of you have done the replacement. How did they go?
Now - Keep in mind that...
Now I have been wrong before... so take this with a grain of salt...
looks like you are planning ot use 4 dimm modules to get to 2 gigs of ram?
I have heard that the Athlon 64s don't like 4 modules on some boards, and kick the command rate down to 2T... Have you looked into this...
Just found this board at NewEgg... NE is the only one that shows up with the Biostar TForce4U mobo...
And I am glad you asked, cause I just realized it's a full on ATX, not mATX board... (HAHAHA)
*crap*
At least the Lite-On is a good choice... (LOL)
Thanks...
Sure boogerd up this...
Greetings All,
I hear that the Lite-On DVD drives are the best, but have yet to see a model number, or even better yet, a length declared for these drives.
Looking to go with an OCZ ModStream to reduce cable clutter, and have the Lite-On SOHW-1693S model picked out...
any suggestions...
First -
RAM - Test one module at a time with mem86...
You should notice that it stabilizes immediatly once you find the bad module.
Pretty common these days. Add it to your "quick fix" box... test the ram when in doubt.
With the SN25P, and the OCZ ram I had to bump Ram Volts to 2.8...
I dunno... I am looking at 3 on my desk, one on the wife's desk... all trouble free except when I inserted a ram module incorrectly and clipped a CPU fan wire in the SN25P (Shuttle AND OCZ replaced the Mobo and Ram for No Charge!)...
Just sold an SN45G to my InLaws...
My count is:
(2)...
Welcome to the world of Small Form Factor computers... if this is your first one that is.
It is good to hear that, well for the most part, your computer is working well.
It does sound like the BIOS update did not complete sucessfully - If you cannot get into the BIOS to make changes to...
I can confirm that Linux works on Shuttles - SN95G5 and SN25P models.
If I plan them to be Linux systems, they get nVidia cards. Period.
I've successfully used:
Mandrake/Mandriva - 10.1OE, 2005LE
Suse 9.3
Kubuntu
Fedora Core 3/4
Knoppix
HTH!
yah, looks like ram divider time to me too... without knowing the specs on that ram at all... PC3200 is good for 25-35Mhz over stock, then it's divider time like Pkirk618 said.
You should be able to put some more Mhz on that CPU...
Good luck
I am sorry...
Data on an OC testing system? Shame...(grin) especially if you don't have a backup....
Now - get back to work and overclock those boards... I have had my Q-Pack sitting in the garage for the past 2 months... and I need a mobo...
C'mon... Overclock those bad boys...
Sounds like coincidental power surge... What's the system plugged into?
Better not be the WALL... (grin)
You are probably right that you busted some dust loose. Did it smell like burnt electronics?
Sometimes you get away with it when you reseat components. Almost like it resets, then...
works fine for me in CSS, HL2, FarCry...
But I ain't picky, and 35 years of listneing to Rock N Roll and competition shooting has taken it's toll...
so YMMV....
