Hi, kinda experienced with computers in most ways (built the machine I'm currently using, 8 Gb ram, QX9650, watercooled GTS 8800 vid).
Now for my server I've got an old Dell XPS Gen 4 computer running Windows Server 2008. It has an SSD drive to boot off of and a media volume to hold my...
Odd problem.
I boot to the DVD to install (a legit) copy of server 2008 x86.
I've had server 2008 before on this machine. My hardware is fine. But I changed out the drive for an SSD just to test it out.
Keyboard works in pre-boot environment. Then installation files load and Server 2008...
It's not there anymore..running Vista 64 and an 8800GTS watercooled. Wanted to check what it's operating at under load and I'm not seeing a place to do that.
Looked around for 3rd party apps like everest, but those are paid programs...there used to be a way to do this for free ~_~
EDIT: Am...

Stock QX9650, says it's running @ 2.0 GHz if I'm reading this correctly. Easy Tune 5 says it's running @ 2.6. Isn't it supposed to run at 3.0?
Never overclocked anything before in my life by the way, once my rig is finished setting up I...
I had a brain fart a few days ago and on my new rig put in molex power and SATA power on a drive. The circuit board on the drive prompty exploded.
So I got a new drive.
After everything is all set up, about a half hour into operating I put my other three hard drives in. After I put the...
To spread the same wallpaper (extra wide!) across two monitors, rather than setting up wallpaper for monitor 1 and monitor 2, or cloning it.
In XP, I have to use Ultramon since Nvidia drivers don't seem to support that feature by default...
...actually caught fire.
Trying to install Vista Ultimate 64. Everything was going okay for a while until Vista said, "No drives detected."
That's BS because I had FOUR SATA drives ready for use. Sure enough, I boot into the BIOS and none of them show.
Okay. So I thought maybe the disk...
Antec 900 case. Neither the Gigabyte motherboard manual nor Antec manual elaborate here so some help would be appreciated.
Trying to connect RESET SW, PWR SW, and IDE HDD LED two-pin connectors to the motherboard. The manual says to be careful about connecting positive to positive and...
I've rummaged up a PCI SCSI adapter. For a nice e-mail/backup server, do any of you think that using it with a 15K HD would be of any benefit?
Specs:
(slightly modified) XPS Gen 4 Pentium 4 3.6 GHz
2 gigs of 667 DDR2 RAM
8400 GS video card.
Thoughts?
http://www.svc.com/hose-clamp.html
I've got a plastic adapter in my loop and it seems it has a slow leak from behind the tubing no matter what I do. So I thought about buying some hose clamps.
I've got 7/16 ID tubing and that link above doesn't have that size in metal, but if you guys have...
Sorry for what I'm sure is a basic question, but I've never built a computer before!
I bought a 12 volt dangerden pump and it came with a power cord that has three pins.
On the motherboard, I've got two female three-pin slots. One is labeled "NB_fan" (for the north bridge? I don't need a...
...if I want to use a t-line, should I use some kind of syringe to inject the coolant? Also, wouldn't doing this keep air in the line, as well as build pressure?
I want to test it, but the entire 24-pin cable is black. I've got the instruction booklet and a paperclip...what do I want to jumper? PS_ON# to COM?
Anyone?

It doesn't say up to 1066 or 800, 1066...I just want to make sure since I'm going to get some discount DDR2 800 ram and I wanna make sure it'll work with this mobo.
Correct? I'm just OCing the QX9650, not really going to OC...

This Gigabyte motherboard with an Antec 900 case. Decided on this for my new rig (processor is QX9650). Was going to go for SLi but decided I can probably just get by with one nice card.
Anyway, the Antec 900 cables have two...
2 x PCI-E X16
1 x PCI-E X16 (X4 bandwidth)
Saw this here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813127033
Not sure what the X4 bandwidth part is about. I've heard you can only run SLi on one monitor, but I've got 2 24"ers...can I run SLi on one monitor and install...
For the moment I just want to use my 8800GTS until the next gen cards come out to run SLi...I've got two Dell 2405FPW's and I do a lot of gaming, so I'd like to keep SLi as an option as opposed to buying an X38 board.
Which in and of itself is confusing because I've been doing so research and...
Building a new rig piece by piece and this guy just came out...for getting the 9860, will my original plan of getting an Evga 680i motherboard still work out okay? I see it's socket 775 but I'd like someone to confirm for me that I won't need to alter any other purchasing plans...
So it seems like the black ice pro III won't go inside the case.
That's fine.
What I want to do now is build an expansion to house the radiator under the case itself and connect to the bottom of the Antec.
Any advice? Never done this before but I don't want to send it back for a double...

It looks the same....?
Sorry, I'm really new to this, but I'm building a rig that's going to be in a place that really needs to be just a bit quiet...
It's not on Newegg, very cheap, but it seems to be very good...almost suspicious.

Any comments? The reviews I can find are just on that site, sort of biased I...
I called Dell about a year ago to see if I can upgrade (XPS Gen 4) but they said I couldn't....looking back on this again, these are my specs:

The reviews seem to indicate that it is...this is my first time building a computer and I want to do a cool job of it, so when my QX6850 arrives (got it cheap) I want to put some kind of liquid cooling on it. I've got an Antec...
Building new rig. Never actually built my own before but I want something state of the art, and not at Dell's pricing.
Antec nine hundred case
eVGA 680i board (A1, whatever the hell that means; it's the most popular)
Zephyr 750w power supply
8 gigs of ram, filling the four DIMM slots with...
I'm painfully sure the answer is yes, but I don't see any documentation...
I just don't feel like I NEED 2007 for exchange, but I want Server 2008 for the upgrades to terminal services...also I'm too stingy to buy a new mobo for my server that supports 64-bit processing, which Exchange 2007...
I'm semi-decent with computers, but I don't trust myself to build a system on my own, so if I could find a site with a QX6850 already inside I'd be thrilled.
Money isn't really an issue for me. But I'm not stupid. I know I can get state-of-the-art stuff without going on Dell and spending...
Can't seem to get it to work. Pulsar's site doesn't have any drivers. I paired the device (already paired a mouse) and when I try to use it, I get a device error when I try to listen to music/use it at all.
Just got Vista, so I'm a bit new to how things work. This isn't terribly helpful, but...
This is probably a simple question, but I'm not finding the answer >_>;
Go 7800/7900 drivers are listed, but I can't just use the 7 series...are they not available for download from nvidia? Just got a new laptop; trying to get the latest drivers...
Looked around a bit and didn't see this, sorry.
Anyway, looking to get an awesome laptop (read: state of the art) for the summer.
However, the best video card I can find is 7950GTX.
There isn't an 8 series laptop card? No DirectX 10 for me?
Hello--
I'm fairly familiar with PC HD data transfering, but I've got a laptop that's nearly dead. I think if I mount it as a slave drive, I can probably transfer the files I need. Usually works on nearly-dead full-size drives.
The only problem is I have no idea what kind of connection the...
You'd think it's not even out. Finally decided on a processor (See: my only other topic on this board) and since I want to do gaming AND encoding state-of-the-art, I think the QX6800 would be a good choice.
But, uh...Ebay doesn't have one (as of this post) Newegg doesn't have one....am I...
I'm still a bit of a novice when it comes to major upgrades.
I've got a Dell XPS gen 4. I've made a few changes to it, but overall I'm pretty happy where it's at. 3.6GHz, 2 gigs of ram, 8800GTS 640 card. Nice stuff.
Anyway, I'd like to stick one of those spiffy new Core 2 Duo/extreme...
Still on XP here.
There's two driver differences that irk me:
1) Using the 7900 series drivers, my second monitor would turn on IMMEDIATELY on boot-up. It would just be a clone of the first monitor until Windows actually loaded. It's slightly annoying to see the second monitor off until...
I've got Windows Home Server set up so I can manage a bunch of stuff, including RDP to my personal machine. However, I like the auto-login when I turn my machine on, and I want it to stay that way. Unfortunately WHS remote access requires a password on an account used to remotely access a...
Google isn't helping, since the answers vary. I'm getting an event error saying that the service isn't starting because it can't find the file specified.
Not really sure how to proceed.
The DS1410D service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file...
I've had a few machines at work that I repair/install hang at 34 minutes left (installing devices...). What's so special about what's going on that it messes things up occasionally?
The main reason I ask is because I decided to repair my home machine...I thought it could use it, been acting a...
I'm having a lot of problems and I've narrowed it down to the video card. But, because I'm paranoid, I want to be sure that it's not the motherboard. Beyond just looking at it and not seeing a transistor falling off, is there any kind of test I can run to make sure everything is fine?
From what I've read, it seems to be a wonderful and efficient card. Even though it doesn't have DirectX 10 support, it's at the top of the 7 series. The 8 series just came out...even if it has DX10 support, is it worth getting an 8800? I'm always weary to get the first in a series of anything...
