A screenshot would help. If you're talking about blocking then it's probably a scratched disk.
I've been getting a TON of damaged disks from NetFlix lately (7 out of the last 10 BR disks needed to be replaced because they had 5+ minute sections where they wouldn't play). The copy of Taken I...
If you have a SAS adapter with RAID functionality and hook up an expander then the drives on the expander can be used in a RAID array, just as with the directly-attached ones. Some controllers have limits as to the number of drives per array though, so, depending on the controller, you may need...
Cute... I've been wondering about that though. Why aren't there more SAS SSDs? I've not come across any that are available through retail channels. Only a few ridiculously-priced ones made for specific OEMs.
Where are you getting a $100 price difference? Most stores I've seen that carry both only have a $20 difference, which I'd say is just about right for an adapter that can support twice the number of drives.
There's some anecdotal info over on the OCZ forums about the ICH controllers, especially 9 & 10, getting REAL hot (95-100C and up) when you would stick >4 Vertex drives in RAID 0 running IOMeter. I don't recall anyone having them blow up though...
If memory serves, all were from users with no...
I don't even think about that because I don't use the Home versions of Windows. Good point though. Home Premium on Vista/7 is limited to 16GB, and the cheaper versions are limited lower than that. You need Business/Professional or above for > 16GB...
My last box had 8GB (4x 2GB, C2Q Q9550) in it and when I upgraded a month or so ago I tried to go it with 6GB (3x 2GB, Xeon W3680). That lasted all of 2 days before I ordered 3x 4GB to bring it up to 18GB.
18GB is the new 6GB. :)
Seriously though, if you're a heavy Photoshop user you should...
I don't want to get in an argument because at this point it doesn't matter, but as an FYI, you paid for delivery within 2 business days of the order being approved (which is typically instant unless you gave bad CC address info or wanted to bill/ship to different states), not UPS 2nd Day Air...
Sounds about right. I personally don't like it (and prefer Nerd, Rip It, and Bawls), but you'd be shocked at the amount the other employees go through...
EDIT: For those of you pointing out items where the prices have been inadvertently raised, whoops. I'll make sure someone fixes those on...
I'm not real familiar with that drive, but it looks like it mirrors to a CF card. What you're describing sounds like the freezing you get with a cheap MLC SSD drive. What kind of CF card are you using?
The Core V2 sucks (or at least my experience with it did). If you must buy now then go with the Intel X25-M (80 or 16GB only). If you don't want the Intel then try the OCZ Apex (60, 120, or 250 GB). If you can wait a month then try the OCZ Vertex.
I think the whole thing was blown out of proportion anyway. I've got about a dozen of the affected models (though none are 1.5TB) at home and at work (all bought between the middle of November and the end of January, most during December) and none actually claim there is a problem with my...
I had (6) 500GB RE2 drives in RAID 5 for about a year until two of them crapped out on me at almost exactly the same time.
I've since switched to (4) 1TB ES.2 drives in RAID 6 and am much happier. These run considerably cooler than the RE2's at half the size so I'm expecting them to last a...
I got an email back from RIM this morning. The gist of it was that you cannot buy the latest and greatest directly from them. My guess is that when a 9000-replacement comes out you'd be able to buy the 9000 directly from them.
Still waiting on a reply from NewEgg. If they can't get me an...
Price on the 80GB Intel just dropped on NewEgg too. $499 -> $399 with free shipping.

If they hit $349 I'm getting two for RAID 0. I need a bit more than 80GB (though 120GB would be fine).
They're actually identical to the Titan, just a little later to market (and probably with fewer firmware bugs, based on the early reviews of the Titan on NewEgg).
So what's the consensus then? Should I keep this one, replace the "Rogers" cover at the bottom, and just ignore the fact that it says "Rogers" every time it starts up and shuts down?
From what I've heard, there are unbranded devices floating around. Anyone know where I can get one?
Grr... NewEgg sent me an Unlocked Bold alright but it's certainly not unbranded as the web site shows. The phone boots up and shuts down with a "Rogers" logo and it's got the "Rogers" antenna cover at the bottom.
The only reason I bought the stupid thing from them was because it showed on...
I'm going to give myself an answer on #'s 1 & 2.
1. Yes, you can run without a Blackberry data plan, certain apps detect that this is missing and then refuse to run.
2. Handango was in my bookmarks from back when I used a Palm Pilot & later a WinMo PDA.
3. ???
I seriously hope that's sarcasm. If not, yes, you still need to backup your data. Accidental deletions happen and RAID won't protect you from that, nor will it protect you from serious hardware failures that take out multiple drives.
I use USB 1TB drives for my long-term backups (turn them...
Heh, you're going to kick yourself when two of your drives fail at the same time. Trust me, with 16 drives it WILL happen sooner or later (one will crap out and then a second will die during the rebuild, it happens all the time).
If I were you I'd do RAID 6 with a hot spare, at least that...
So, I just bought an unlocked BB Bold from NewEgg and have a few questions.
First, can I use it without a BB data plan (voice only, no data or text) for a couple weeks? I was planning on making some changes to my plan (add family, change base minutes, etc.) the middle of February and I'd...
I ditched my SageTV box for a TiVo Series 3 and a PopcornHour about 18 months ago and haven't looked back.
The wife is a little annoyed by the PCH but that has more to do with how I've got my Harmony remote configured.
+1 to that. The closest I've ever come to 1Gbit/s was with two single-port Intel PRO/1000 PT Server Adapters and a Dell PowerConnect 2748 in the middle. Each run was ~50ft from the wall jack to the patch panel, with 3ft cables from the patch to the switch and 7ft cables from the wall to the...
You might want to skip Dell as well. They used to ship me drives surrounded in foam, packed inside individual boxes. The one I got last week showed up shrink-wrapped to a bit of cardboard and then shoved into a bubble mailer. It, as expected, was DOA. Maybe that was a fluke, and I'm going to...
Neither of those are actual RAID controllers, they're both fakeraid. If it actually works for the SiI3132 then the Acronis Boot Disk (this app is a bootable CD, right?) must have the drivers for it.
Composite (single yellow plug, often accompanied by red and white for stereo audio) is limited to a very fuzzy 480i. If you meant component (the one with the red, blue, and green plugs) then that's something else.
MLC SSDs have issues wtih random writes. Those with the current crop of JMicron controllers are hit particularly hard, causing system freezes of a few seconds at a time whenever you start to write a lot to the disk. SLC drives are not affected, nor is the Intel X25-M (and OCZ is claiming that...
I've never heard of a home router that limits the number of wireless clients, nor one that wouldn't let you attach a switch to one of the wired ports for more wired computers.
Sorry, but it's going to be a long time before SSDs show up in my TiVo. A TiVo, regardless of whether or not you're actually telling it to record something, is constantly writing to the hard drive. Ignoring the random write issue that would crop up from multiple tuners, a current-model SSD...
