Having gone through another PSU failure, making it the 3rd in the last six years, I am now pondering whether PSUs have a general short lifespan or whether it is purely my environment that is killing them.
I have been a fan of Fortron Blue PSUs and bought five of them. three have now died...
Hey guys! :)
I had to take a break from the heavy coding to announce NZFS.
NZFS stands for Next-Generation Zion File System.
More detailed information will be provided in the weeks to come as NZFS is currently in private beta testing.
Nonetheless, here is a first look...
Reading this AnandTech's article on Intel and Micron next generation SSDs built on the new 25nm process, there is a paragraph with important implications:
This means that the block size is now 256 pages x 8KB = 2MB.
Remembering that in order to overwrite data you need to erase a full...
I have a week old Intel X25-M 160GB SSD SATA 2nd Gen SSDSA2MH160G2R5 (retail version).
It is a week old but I have only used it for 2 days now: 2 quick benchmarks and copied 60GB of data to it.
It is larger than what I need in a single drive.
So, I would like to trade it for 2x 80GB G1/G2...
Well, I was stoked about upgrading my two 2212 to two 8354, but the upgrade is not going smoothly.
I am able to boot and run fine with a single CPU, but using both CPUs, I get a "CPU mismatch detected!" error.
Both CPU have the same stepping (B3), but I see a difference in the second line...

I have some top quality AMS external enclosures to let go.
AMS VENUS enclosures are the best on the market period.

I had such high hopes for this chip. :(
Well, here comes the let down: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=3505
Oh well, i7 it is for my next build then.
Now where can I get a microATX i7 board?

Current system:
P4 3Ghz
2GB ram
Dual NTSC tuners
480p Projector
MCE 2005
Movies => all DVDs (no Blu-ray)
Things I cannot live without:
- Commercial skipping
- A working TV guide
I am willing to upgrade the HTPC but not the projector (yet).
Has anyone with a 480p projector...
Are both optical and coaxial SPDIF outputting at the same time on Audigy Platinum cards?
I have a need for two digital output from my HTPC.
I initially thought about splitting the optical cable, but then I realized that I could just connect to each of the optical and coaxial out.
Can...
Ok, I just got my M-Audio 88 Keys Pro keyboard today.
I have several issues with that keyboard:
1. I have a stuck key (the left most key stays down when pressed)
2. The "modulation" jog-dial does not snap back to the middle like the "Pitchbend" jog-dial.
My current concern is with issue...
My specs:
P4c 3.0Ghz
2GB ram
Radeon 9700pro
Audigy Platinum
Infocus 72IN
MCE 2005
(see sig for more)
I was thinking of doing a new build for my HTPC, but then I realized that the sole benefit from that would be being able to play HD contents.
To me, that's not money and time well...

I had to take my Audigy 1 Platinum breakout box out to clean it today.
I then realized that it was the oldest computer hardware I have in active use to date.
This device has been serving me well since 2001 running 24 hr/day.
This is one piece of hardware that was well worth its...
Boy is that drive slow!
The write speed on this drive is simply crippled.
It takes 4-5 minutes to copy over 7GB while it takes a few seconds to copy the same 7GB to one of my 500GB AAKS drives.
I get HD Tach read speed of 64MB/s compared to 73MB/s for a 500GB AAKS, which is lower...
I don't know if this is old news here but new Intel motherboards supporting REG ECC DDR2 are out!
http://supermicro.com/products/launch/Intel/?typ=5100#MB5100
This is something I was praying for ever since I made such a large purchase in REG ECC DDR2 in anticipation for Barcelona.
Going...
I have had my Audigy + I/O drive for about six years now.
The sound card works fine.
The firewire port on the I/O also works fine.
However, I no longer get any sound out of the I/O drive.
Anyone ever had such problem?
Media Center Users Get Free ITV and Slingbox Functionality

It is clear from AMD's tactics that Barcelona will have a short market life.
This is an embarrassing chapter AMD is trying to put behind.
The processor is already 6 months late, and it has yet to make it through the standard retail channels.
It is clear that AMD will have to precipitate a...
I am planning on my new Media/Backup VMware server machine.
I need confirmation on a board that will support 8GB of ram with Vista 32 bit (i.e., a board that supports memory re-mapping).
I have been told these two will run 8GB.
I am not sure if that's true under Vista 32 bit.
Guys,
Can we get a list of boards that will run 8GB of ram and a Quad-core without any issue?
I am planning on the upgrade of my HTPC/Backup VMware host (see sig).
The Q6600 is a no brainer for me, and 8GB is a must as my current HTPC with 2GB of ram makes a very poor VMware backup host...
I have both the jWIN JH-V100 and Sennheiser HD201.
The JH-V100 was free, and I did not expect much out of it.
After all the raves, I also got the HD201.
I never really put the headphones through the test since I rarely used them.
I finally got to testing both of these low end headphones...
My Dell MFP 1600n Printer just died out of the blue.
It looks like a power failure within the device.
I have had the product for 3 years, but I only used 20% of the toner.
The device worked beautifully for the time I've had it.
Anyone has experience with printer repair?
Would it cost...
While waiting for barcelona, I will run a single opty 2210 socket F.
I have not had an AMD chip since Socket A.
RAM: 4x 4GB 667mhz ECC REG (16 GB)
Mobo: ASUS KFN5-D SLI
Heatsink: Zalman CNPS9500 AM2
Video card: Radeon X300
PSU: FSP FX 700-GLN
Will I be able to OC this chip?
If yes...
I am getting a Radeon X300 and want to undervolt it.
I know I can use tools like ATITools to underclock it, but without undervolting it, that won't really reduce the power consumption.
The card consumes about 10watt idle, and I would like to reduce that.
Any tip on undervolting the card...
Does anyone knows if two Zalman CNPS9700 LED CPU Coolers will fit on an ASUS KFN5-D SLI Dual Socket 1207 NVIDIA nForce Professional 3600 Extended ATX Server Motherboard?

For those who don't know, AMD does not ship socket F CPUs with a heatsink/fan (whether retail or OEM).
Now, you would think: no big deal, get an after market heatsink/fan.
Well, read here to understand my pain: http://theinquirer.org/default.aspx?article=36051
Anyone knows where I can find a 6 pin PCI-e to 4 pin ATX cable adapter?
My power supply has a 4 pin ATX plug and a 6 pin PCI-e plug.
I need a 4+4 ATX plug.
I need the adapter to make the PCI-e plug the +4 ATX.
AMD is about to be eclipsed in 3 months by Intel.
How can you argue with a 2.4Ghz Quad @ $266?
How will AMD respond to this eclipse? $40 X2 cpus? 4 sockets FX (LOL)?
