I really don't think this is a RAM problem. The system has had issues no matter what settings I use. I'm leaving the voltage/frequencies/timings on full auto for the Patriot sticks and a random generic DDR3 1333 stick.
The RAM is rated at 1.65v. I tried both sticks individually, as well as another random DDR3 1333 stick I had in another machine.
The machine detects the RAM as 1333mhz and 1.5v. I tried manually boosting the voltage to 1.65v, and set it to 1866mhz with the timings specified (9-11-9-27)...
Hi,
I just built myself a new Ivy Bridge rig and I'm having massive issues with system instability and I'm running out of ideas as to what's causing it.
The system is freezing hard, and sometimes following that up with a reboot, usually within seconds of turning it on. Sometimes I can make...
I'd recommend the Sony TX5. A tiny little underwater camera packed with features. If you want to take some landscapes, the TX5 does auto stitching of panoramas. It's really nice. Plus an easy to use touchscreen interface. Also takes 720p movies.
I got one a couple months ago. Highly...
Hi there,
just bought a new macbook pro in order to do some iphone/mac development. I'd like to replace the hard drive with an SSD. My two main choices are an OCZ Vertex 120gb which I could hopefully get for close to $300 (Canadian) soon, or an Intel Gen2 80gb, which I'm guessing will be around...
They're virtually identical, but not identical.
They're all Samsung, some are:
1Rx8 PC2-4200U-444-12-D3
some are:
1Rx8 PC2-4200U-444-12-D1
The timings are the same, although I just noticed that the CAS settings within memtest are 4-4-4-11, not 4-4-4-12 as seems to be indicated by the...
Hi,
my company has been having all sorts of issues with RAM that came in our Dell desktops. All 5 desktops are identical and were bought at the same time about 3 years ago. It seems like they've each taken turns having the RAM fail. I've been trying to sort out the good sticks from the bad...
Hi,
I just recently rebuilt my HTPC and I accidentally plugged the front USB headers in backwards on the motherboard (positive plugged into negative and vice versa). I'm so used to things just not working if you don't plug them in correctly so I didn't really care if they were wrong.
I...
Hi there,
I've got a Q9450 coming my way next week. I'm trying to decide which motherboard to get with it. I think I've narrowed it down to 3 boards.
It's either the DFI LANParty Dk P35-T2RS:

Asus P5Q Pro...
Hmm, I didn't see such an option, but I'm not using the web GUI. Anyway, that might have been the issue as for some reason last night it started progressing much faster and finished. I rebooted the system and expanded the partition to 1.81TB. Pretty sweet! Lets see how fast I can fill it :)
Yeah, it will take a super long time, but oh well. As long as it completes ok, I think everything will be fine. The old RAID array is still online during this expansion process, so I can still access my data and even if a drive were to fail, the data would still be intact.
I've gotta say...
Hi,
I've had a 3x400gb RAID 5 in my system for about a year and a half. Finally pulled the trigger on 3x1TB Seagate drives, and proceeded to expand my RAID array. I'm using a Highpoint 2300 card.
First step was to replace each drive one by one and rebuild the array each time. This went...
Hey guys, I'm already using another library called MooTools. If anything, I regret using any library. Mootools is pretty slim compared to some other libraries out there, but it's still too slow a lot of times. I use native javascript as much as possible. Mootools has built in drag and drop...
Hi,
I developed drag and drop functionality for my web app a while ago and it's been working fine. My app runs exclusively on IE 6 & 7. I have my own custom logic to capture mousedown and mouseup events on the elements you can drag, and I just create a ghost of the element to follow your...
Covers all levels, DX9, DX10, XP, Vista, min fps, avg fps. Pretty sweet article. For all of you that think 30fps in the demo level benchmark will get your through the game, think again.

All you people getting sub-30 fps in the benchmark are absolutely nuts if you think the game is playable at those settings. I'm almost done the game, and finally found it pretty playable once I got my rig up to 45fps in the benchmark.
Almost all the levels from the 2nd half of the game are...
They work fine for me. Not sure what you mean. I'm using the exact same method. Copy over my cfg file to game.cfg in a batch file, then launch the exe.
I'm definitely seeing sunshafts, parallax occlusion mapping and other effects in Win XP.
http://www.gamespot.com/features/6182806/index.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=gumballs&tag=gumballs;subtitle;0
I can definitely say there are parts in this game that absolutely murder my machine. I could really go for 2x9800gtx's in sli right about now.
Even if you get 35 fps during the gpu...
Performance is nearly identical from the demo. Maybe 1-2 fps higher.
I lowered my resolution to 1440x900, but my PC was still ready to die this morning during this one scene.
By the way, this is on WinXP running a tweaked cfg file, meaning most things on very high except post processing...

:confused::confused:
Ummm, ok. Not sure how believable that is. Those look like SLI results. I get about 20fps lower in XP (28fps avg on gpu test) with my 8800gt overclocked quite a bit. You're getting better results than this guy is at 1280x1024 with an overclocked Ultra...
Whatever. Gamespot has been putting out some good performance comparison articles recently. They're one of the only ones doing XP vs Vista, DX10 vs DX9 comparisons out there, plus they check it on a bunch of different hardware, GPUs, CPUs, RAM. Their Bioshock and WIC articles were some of the...
I did some more tests and it seems like if I run my FSB at stock, then the RAM runs fine at DDR2-800. It's only when I overclock that the motherboard gets unstable and then has issues with 4 sticks. That's disappointing. And I can't drop the RAM speed anymore. DDR2-600 is as low as it goes...
Hi,
there have been some great deals on 2x1gb kits all around, so I decided to pick one up to add to my existing 2x1gb in my Asus P5WDH-Deluxe.
The original kit is OCZ Gold PC6400 5-5-5-12
The new kit is OCZ Platinum Rev. 2 PC6400 4-4-4-15
The problem is I can't get any stability out of...
OK, how the hell are you getting such good results? I had a 7900GT before I got my current card, and I couldn't even break 30fps avg at 1024x768, all medium.
I found this thread:
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1140549
which sounds a lot like my problem. Doesn't sound like replacing the PSU worked for anybody, and it might just be a defect of the 8800...
I'll do more tests tonight, but I don't think it's coming from my hard drives. Plus why would they get louder under load? I got the noise running ATI tool this morning. Which pushes the GPU almost exclusively. It's also the only thing that's changed in my system.
It sounds a lot like a fan, a buzzing sound that ramps up till it hits full load. As soon as I exit the game, it goes back to normal. It's a constant noise though, doesn't fluctuate or click. It's not a fan though, cause I've stopped every single one in the system, including the PSU fans, and...
Hi, I've kept my PC pretty quiet, even though I have a lot of components and a lot of fans, they're all pretty silent.
I just bought an 8800GT, and playing games with it, I noticed it was a little loud. So yesterday, I replaced the stock cooler with the cooler from my 7900gt. A passive...
On a related note, I'm dual booting XP and Vista x64, and for the life of me, I can't figure out how to add custom resolutions. I'd really like to try 1440x900 in Crysis, but without getting that resolution added to Windows, I don't see how that's going to happen.
I'm using the latest 169.04...
Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, this solution isn't for everybody. The Accelero is massive in itself, and on top of that, I have a 120mm fan strapped on top of it using plastic cable ties. So it wastes 2-3 slots below it.
As far as the installation for the Accelero S1 though, it couldn't be...
No, it fits even better than it did on the 7900gt I was using it on before. No capacitors getting in the way. I'm not even using ramsinks now as I didn't have any thermal tape. The RAM does get quite warm when playing games, but I played crysis for about an hour and it was fine. The heatsink...
