The Thermaltake Armor+ is a decent choice. Lot's of room for virtually everything:
Long GFX cards
Watercooling
Up to 7 HDD
Multiple 120mm and 140mm fans
High profile CPU coolers
Long PSU
The built quality is okay. Not over the top, but considering the price it is okay. No sharp edges...
Hello,
the DuOrb VGA is not larer than the usual 8800GTX/Ultra stock cooler. It is about the same size.
I think you can buy voltage adapter cables to adjust fanspeed, there is no way to adjust it on the fly though. At maximum speed, it is still quieter than the original stock cooling...
Same experience with Corsair support here. Living in germany I ordered additional cables for my HX1000W, not even 48 laters UPS delivered a package all the way from california to my house. Awesome, with support like this I'll definatly stick with Corsair products in the future. I am tired of...
That's why I bought the Coolermaster Z600, it has a very unique appearence and design. From a performance point of view it is about the same like the Noctua or Xigmatek HD-1283. But I prefer the looks of the Z600.
Why try even higher? 3,6 GHz is a very good result on air, sure there are some people who got it over 3,7 GHz, but only a few. If you have the time, go aheah and try it. But personally I wouldn't use it for everyday news. I guess Vcore needs to be way above 1,45v, maybe even more than 1,5v which...

I am also thinking about buying this thing. There is one major (or minor, you decide...) thing which keeps me away (besides the high price tag):
The removable motherboard tray is great, but is it true that it has absolutely zero holes for cable management? I mean a case which is almost 300,-...
Here is what I did to chose between the cases:
Write down what is important to you, appearence, features, size, space for larger CPU coolers, maybe watercooling and so on.
Search for good reviews and videos of all the three cases. There are tons of reviews for both Stacker and Armor+, don't...
I'd go for the Armor+, but it depends on your personal taste. The Armor+ also have good options when it comes down to cable management. I'd say it has even better cable features than the Antec.
The Armor+ also has more space for large graphic cards, the motherboard tray is a nice feature if you...
The first Lian Li case I would really like to buy. Too bad the price is simply out of the question. I love the design, the features, cooling possibilities but well over 500 US-$ is simply too much to spend on a PC case for me.
I am using an XFX 780i, but since it's reference design too, it shoudln't matter.
At the moment I am using a Coolermaster Z600 for CPU cooling.
Before that, a Xigmatek HD-1283 was cooling down my CPU.
That one is a bit tricky:
You can't use any screws up there. I installed a 120mm fan by using double sided scotch-tape or let's better say something called poster strips. Usually they are meant to simple attach posters to your wall, but they can hold a 120mm quite good.
There are better...
The solution is simple:
Take out you HDD cage and look for a cable which features a 2 pin connector somewhere in the area which is covered by the cage. The case itself has one, it should be one of the many cables going into the case itself.
I am wondering though why your 23cm fan wasn't...
I don't want to be an a$$hole here, but since evga doesn't release the tool for public download at the moment, I don't think it would be wise to upload it somewhere for public download. After all, it might be illegal.
You might want to take a look at the Thermaltake Armor+ (note the "+" in the modelname), it is a full sized big tower with lots of space and nice features:
- Removable motherboard tray
- Up to seven 3.5" drive slots
- Up to seven 5.25" bays
- Cable management
and more....
Only downside...
Is it a G0 or a B3 stepping? From what I recall, the older B3 simple don't overclock as good as the G0. B3 usually does 3,0 to 3,2 GHz, G0 can manage 3,4 to above 3,6 GHz at a similar temperature.
The MSI P7N Diamond has an additional PCI 1x slot between PCI-E #1 and #2.
By the way, triple SLI with 8800 GTX/Ultra or 9800 GTX has already been a low space thing. This is not new just because of the GTX 260/280. Heat really is a problem, in triple SLI the 8800 GTX got quite hot even in idle...
Not everyone has CF compatible mainboards or want to buy one. If you look at it this way, you can also buy two 8800 GTS or two 9800 GTX and you are faster AND cheaper than GTX 280. But then again this is only for SLI mainboards...
Also not everyone wants MGPU solutions, I won't do any SLI/CF...
The GTX 280 is faster than a GX2, it all comes down to three things:
- The application
- Resolution and Quality settings
- AA and AF settings
When it comes to resolutions of at least 1680x1050 and 16x AF and AA setting higher than 4x, the GX2 starts to slow down while the GTX 280 goes on...
GTX 260 already dropped down in price, originally it was 449 now it is 399. Street prices should be even lower.
At the moment it seems the 4850 will be faster than 9800 GTX. I guess 4870 will be around GTX 260, sometimes faster, sometimes slower.
You have to wait another seven days at least...
Same here:
MSI GTX 280 OC is sitting on my desk waiting to be installed (damn 177.35 donwloading so SLOW).
My trusty BFG 8800 GTX has been bought at the end of november 2006 and I have to say that it is one of the best and most reliable graphic card I ever used. But for me it was time for...
The worst designs come from Point of View, Gigabyte, BFG, MSI, Zotac, EVGA and Asus. Actually I think the XFX and PNY ones aren't THAT bad compared to the others.
Having said that, Gainward and even Leadtek are okay for me. Both at least don't look like some el-cheapo CG graphic composition...
I just hope so. Keep in mind what games we have with DX10 and what games are comming. DX10 puts more stress to the system and I just hope the 280 can deliver better performance compared to the 1st generation DX10 cards.
Some other numbers from an accidently released review, which has disappeared again:
Test System:
E8400 @ 3,6 GHz
2 GB PC-1066
Gigabyte P35 DS3R
ForceWare 177.36
Settings unfortunatly are only @ DirectX9 and "high" quality.
The card is an overclocked AMP! edition from Zotac:
Core...
No, but people who still believe in 3x 8800 Ultra performance or other performance miracles should better prepare themselves for a not as impressive card. There are too many clues on forums and sites which states the GTX 280 not as the most impressive gfx card ever.
Fudzilla reports price cuts:
GTX 260: 399,- $ (old 449,- $)
GTX 280: 499,- $ (old 649,- $)
http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=7853&Itemid=65
By reading through all the reports lately it seems like the GTX 280 simply is not the uber-card many people hoped for...
Somewhere around the web I saw pictures with two Delta 4000rpm fans installed. Wonder how good this setup would perform.... but you have to get some good ear protection I guess, since each fan is labled to be 59db.
There are various forms of the bridges. Flexible ones are used by most non-reference board AFAIK. These vary in length from 5 to 12cm.
The reference design are fixed ones, but I don't know all the lenghts. My 780i mainboard came with two 9cm ones (one for 2x SLI, one for 3x SLI).
So if you...
If you have a SLI compatible board, why not use SLI? I suggest to get two 8800 GT cards, the prices dropped significantly since release. Two of these things should perform as good as a single GX2 (since the GX2 is nothing else than that).
I don't know US prices, but the 8800 GTX prices in...
The Armor+ was first released as a big tower. Actually it is *really* big. A 8800 GTX or 9800 GTX if you want can still be 5 or 6 cm longer and it would still fit in this case. If you remove the VGA fan bracket (which is really easy, since it is not preinstalled), you have around 10cm space left...
I'd say it's not necessary, it just depends on your own needs. From what I've read, the Quad stockcoolers are good enough to provide enough cooling. They should do of course, otherwise Intel wouldn't include them in the boxed versions.
An aftermarket coolers becomes interesting to customize...
I just played around a bit with my OC settings, since I got some crashes from time to time. Now I concentrated for the Vcore setting for my Q6600 G0, which is targeted to run @ 3,6 GHz (9x400 MHz).
Mainboard would be XFX 780i with P03 BIOS. In BIOS, I set the Vcore to 1.4v and booted...
I had this heatsink before I changed it to the Coolermaster Hyper Z600.
Although the Noctua is quite expensive on the first look, it is actually an attractive bundle - even the price. You get a great heatsink, one of the best 120mm fans out there (including two voltage adapters and...
Furmark seems to simply not use SLI. I am running a tripple SLI setup just fine, and no matter if I use 2x SLI or 3x SLI, it always shows 1 used GPU.
What about other games? Especially Crysis should get a decent boost.
This one looks like the Xigmatek D1284, which is a traditional top-flow cooler. It is not as good as the tower heatsinks, but it helps to provide more airflow to the motherboard components surrounding the CPU area, since it blows down on them. But for pure CPU temperature, the tower concept is...
