I'm looking at getting an Antec NeoPower 480 for my rig. I haven't found my answer after a few searches on the forums although I'm sure it's been brought up before.
MSi K8N Neo2 Plat has a 20 pin connector and the Neo supplies a 24 pin and a 24 to 20 pin relay. I know this will work, but...
I've never used a shuttle but I have a feeling others would agree with me if I have my facts straight. Venice/San Diego cores have a smaller default vcore and therefore should run cooler than the Winchester core. So probably those would be your best bet.
Winchester at the absolute worst I...
Yeah, 9x for 3000+ I'm pretty sure. I don't think the multi changed from the Winchesters. Is it the same in the bios? Or on the my computer properties does it say its running at 2.2 ghz as well? Maybe you lucked out /shrug
Eclipse has a great guide out there somewhere that may help you find your max overclock. I would first try setting your cpu multi down to 5x and see how high you can get the htt on board to post. That will be the highest your htt can be. Then you can start raising the multi till you find your...
I would suggest the Neo2 Plat if you can't wait for the DFI. I will be switching to DFI when the new board comes out probably. The DFI will be more of a challenge to setup than the MSI. I have gotten my board to post at 300 htt and I've heard of others able to post higher. The problem I'm...
Unfortunately the last company I remember trying to work itself out in the cpu market was Cyrix...maybe theres been others but you don't see them around any more.
I'm still trying to figure out what I think about this. In terms of the gamers point of view I would love it. Think of what...
Interesting. Single short beep normally comes to signify that the computer has posted.
I do know that this happened with an older laptop I had from work. There was a specific button to change from LCD/Monitor/Laptop display. This may be the reasoning behind using the insert button Eclipse?
Hmm, let's see...
Intake
80 x 3
1 front, 2 side
Exhaust
120 x 1 Rear
CPU
120 x 1
Video/Chipset
60 x 1 gpu
40 x 1 chipset
PSU
80 x 4 (yes, stupid and LOUD AS HELL)
Total: 11
My guess is that you will have the same problem as with the XP-120. There is a "capacitor in the way" that makes the XP-120 "incompatible." All any one has had to do is slightly bend the cap a little bit(it really didn't have to move much for me) to the side and the XP-120 fit. Then again...
Glad you like it!
I have the same board and love it to death.
By the way, what are you running your memory at right now? I was thinking of getting some new memory...either cruciel or twinmos maybe /shrug
My understanding is because the A64's have the memory controller on the CPU that running memory dividers will not affect performance as much as it would have on Athlon XP or Intel chips. If you can crank the mhz out of the cpu with a divider running on the memory that's probably your best bet.
I have had some problems in the past getting mine prime95 stable or even to get super pi to run. But all that mattered to me was the fact that 3dmark01, 03, 05, WoW, Quake3, Doom3, and anything else I tossed at it ran perfectly fine. /shrug
The driver comment makes sense. Have you recently upgraded vid card drivers? I have had issues in the past when upgrading drivers. That is until I learned about Driver Cleaner. Great tool...that's something else to think about.
Well, if I remember correctly(and I could be wrong) different sized dimms can cause issues. Or maybe it's not different sized just dimms with different timings.
You could upgrade and get some good ram, that will always carry over to your next system...as long as you stick with AMD...
If he thinks the only way an AMD will run as fast as an Intel is to overclock it to hell give him this comparison.
Which hose would he rather have put out a fire if his house was on fire? A garden hose that shoots out water fast as lightning or a fire hose that will put more volume of water...
Depending on how much you have to spend I would recomend a couple of different coarses.
1. 939 PCI-express board...I've heard nothing but good things about the DFI Lanparty SLi
ATi or nVidia PCI-e video card, 6600gt is decent, but 6800gt or a 800 or 850 from ATi.
San Diego Core...
Huh, anyone notice the 8 sata ports?
I haven't seen anything about this board...but then again, I hadn't looked to see if I could find any info on it either...just knew it would eventually be out.
If you're asking if PC3200 DDR will work with PC100/133 the answer is no. PC3200 is DDR SDRAM and PC100/133 is regular SDRAM.
I hope I'm understanding what you are asking correctly.
From my understanding sometime in June X2 is to be released. It WILL be on socket 939 I know for sure. I have heard many people say M2 won't even be out till late 2006, but not positive on that one. Duel core Opterons are available currently I believe. So I guess it depends on what how soon...
Definately go with the MSI Neo2 Plat...unless you want to wait for the DFI board. I've had mine as high as 295 x 8.5 = 2.5 ghz (suicide run) on my 3000+ Winchester. I've also seen several boards running at over 300 mhz HTT easy.
I would agree with most people here. If you're going to make a jump to duel core why not go ahead and do the 3000+ venice and 6800 gt pci-e. Just the jump to a 6800 would show you huge performance gains on games. I'm guessing you may have to eat a total of $50 at the absolute most on that...
Anyone played with one of these boards yet? I see that a couple have ordered it or are going to order. I'm just waiting to see if it lives up to the hype...
If this thing can do 350 htt...then it might be worth it.
I've gotta check at home about this but...
My OCZ Plat Rev. 1 2-3-2-5-1T did 3-4-4-8-1T up to 260 htt at 2.8V. I would think that memory could reach a higher 1:1 speed with slightly more voltage and looser timings. I then had to drop it to a 5:6 divider to run higher than 260 htt and I...
Hey Ski:
when you did that did, how did you get rid of the un-eveness(if that's a word) of the graphics? I have tried that a couple of times with better results each time, but still not the standards that I would like it to be at. I'm assuming you put a clear coat over it too?
You do learn a heck of a lot reading the multiple faq's! I have learned a bunch and am now having a great time oc'ing and learning more tweaks...automagic overclock wouldn't be any fun!
Lothar is right. Shouldn't have any problems doing that...EXCEPT...if you overclock. Sata channels 1 and 2 are not locked and therefore scale with the PCI bus. You will very quickly see data corruption if you are overclocking and running any hd's on channel 1 and 2.
What is your HTT multiplyer at? That has to be dropped to 4x from 5x to keep things stable at those speeds. Basic idea is HTT multiplyer x HTT < 1000 or so.
Best thing to do is to start upping the HTT(fsb) probably about 5 mhz at a time. Don't know how far you'll be able to get without a memory divider though, it's kinda hit or miss.
Also do a search for some of the overclocking guides in the forum. They are VERY helpful!!!
Maybe do something like mounting it on the outside of the original side panel and then making a frame to go around it? It would add a few inches to the actual width of the case but somethinig to think about.
[edit] Check this out for cheap LCD http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=897915...
Sounds like a great idea! I actually thought about doing that at one point but don't have the cash to fork out on a LCD as of right now. Good luck if you end up doing it and make sure to post a worklog!!!
Well, I'll first say that I know people have problems running 4 sticks of ram on A64 platforms. So if you are using A64...I think 4 sticks will default to DDR333, but I'm not positive on that. As for overclocking memory, you can always pump more voltage and up the HTT...or attempt to loosen...
I'm striving for 4k as well right now. Thinking about getting better cooling for my 6600gt atm. Might be a few weeks though as I'm having car issues that need to be resolved
