I ended up getting the PS3 in the end. The Blu-Ray player would complement my 52" TV really nicely, and I'm enjoying the games quite a bit. I do miss Live's interface though, it's implemented so well compared to PSN, which in itself isn't too bad.

If you can squeeze in just a little bit more money, the 9600GT will perform nearly 2x as fast as the 8600GT and quite a bit faster than the 3850.

Could be a PSU or RAM problem. Try running Memtest, and check your CPU temps using CoreTemp.

Way to throw numbers out of your ass. 700 watts is more than sufficient for dual 8800s. When the +12v rail is unstable, then you have a problem, which is likely the case of the OP.
